Man I like HL2, but this really pisses me off, not ****ing cool at all. I'm in that prison with the 3 turrets and you gotta defend yourself against the guards, it's after alyx comes and goes. No matter how hard I try, I end up dying ALWAYS. This is so annoying, any tips. I have tried to narrow it down to just defending the one hall but it's hard.

Yea I'm stuck on that part too.
Tried like 7 times already and got real close once.
Gonna give myself a rest and try in a few hours.

well, if you're really having trouble, i'd suggest turning the difficulty down to easy (just for this part)

now the turrets, where you pick them up, if you turn 90 degrees in either direction (looking at either hall) if you walk straight you'll encounter the perfect corner to place 2 turrets (one for each corner) they cover each hallway respectively and also should have enough room to see down that mini corridor where you got them. the 3rd turret is up to you i guess. (hope that made sense)

your turrets will go down several times during this battle and don't forget to just use "e" to pick them up again, should only take half a second, don't bother getting the grav gun out, takes too much time. then just start running through the halls guns a blazin'. I've finished the game and could say that arguably this is one of the hardest battles you'll endure, so don't be shy depleting all your rockets, expend everything in your arsenal to kill those bastards, oh and if you've survived 20 seconds, killed 7 or 8 soldiers and haven't taken that much damage, SAVE!!! it took me about 10 saves to get through that at medium, and it was incredibly tough. definately gets you psyched for the idea of killing lots and LOTS of combine, really quickly. :D

good luck!

post a turrent at each of the blue shield entrances and play hit and run with the shotgun. if all else fails, retreat into one of the empty cells and make them come to you. also, keep the gravity gun read for the quick weapon switch should they lob a grenade into your cell. hope that helps.

A little trick that got me through that level. Take 3 boxes and stack them up like steps right next to the mid area to get to the upper level - theres an upper level (just above sealed off mid doorway) where you can hide out and shoot some combine without them being able to reach you.

When you have the boxes/steps set up, put out the 3 turrets to trigger the combine attack then jump up the steps to the safety of the upper level and pick off some combine!

I heard someone on the boards do this, so i tried it, i just stacked a bunch of boxes on the right, 3 turrets on the left, and picked them up if they were shot down. Doesnt last forever, after a while, manhacks break through your boxes

I took one turret (yes one) and backed into a small open room with it. It had a little bed on the wall so I set the turret and waited on that. (you have to set the other turrets or it will never start I think...) The turret would make an awesome bullet shield and whenever somebody got close enough to smack my turret, they ate shotgun. Just chuck gernades out when they come in. Was cake like this.

this part of the game was a BITCH. it took me aaages, i kept quicksaving... moments before i got shot in the head witha shotgun so i had to restart about 3 times.

basically what i did was run round the quadrangle thing, sprinting, sometimes changing direction when you hear which way the combine are coming from. and keep an eye out for combine shooting from behind the blue forcefield... the little pussys.

keep as many of your turrets up as much as you can... if you're running around you can deal with any combine trying to knock them down if you're quick enough... listen for the noise they make when they get knocked over so you know if you are going to be unprotected from any side.

i used the shotgun, so it was basically aim for the head and its a 1 shot kill.

if you're running low on energy top up bit by from the machine, so you have just enough to survive if that be the situation... theres another health machine right after you finish the sequence any way.

i experienced sheer relief and delight when i completed that sequence

If you pick up a turret that has flipped over and look straight ahead (or a bit up if something is on the floor nearby, e.g. a corpse), it reorientates itself to a standing attitiude after a couple of seconds.

I brought one of the turrets with me from the first assault, so I had four for this encounter. I put two each just inside both ends of that small passage joining the two rooms (the one with the crate of SMG ammo in it). I piled junk in the doorways, and just sat in the middle. I picked off the manhacks and the soldiers that the turrets didn't immediately take down. You essentially have infinite ammo for your SMG so you can just go nuts. No grenades were thrown, and I didn't lose a single turret. This was on Hard.

Okay just completed this after trying MANY different ways :-(

Build a stack of creates to the balcony on (the small balcony). Take one or two auto-guns with you (sorry forgot their propper name) and then just touch the other one (to trigger the soliders) then leg it up your crates to the legde.

Now just chuck grenades down. Easy!

I also took the barrels up their and the filing cabinates (back up the stairs) to block the two doors but I don' think anyone tried to come through.

I think someone posted a similiar tactic, not trying to steal their glory, jsut saying it worked for me too.

When Alyx shows up she says '... looks like you could have done with some help....' NO KIDDING!

it took me about 6 reloads to do this...and i did not save within...had to restart the whole thing everytime

Haha, I'm at this part right now and was "**** this" and I'm taking a break.
That balcony thing sounds like a good idea, I'm going to try it.

haha, only 3 turrets... I had 5 :)
I dragged the 2 turrets from earlier turret battle. It still took me several tries to figure out the best places from them. Also I took 1 extra turret to the teleport room battle. Alyx was running so fast, that I didn't have time to bring all of em with me. Too bad I couldn't take em with me to the teleport, those turrets are great help in battle :)

ps. Does anyone know a cheat to spawn friendly turrets?

I took the turrets out, placed them at each forcefield, (cept one) and hid in the little alcove they were in. Just shot them in the head whenever one runs past :D Except after one or two they notice your in there and sidestep and blast you, so keep swapping alcoves. You cant manage this forever so eventually youll have to run out and take em out other ways, but i managed to kill a hell of a lot of them this way. Really annoying, yet really fun part :D

hl2 is a simple fps ur dumb, use ur brain

The foolproof, if somewhat cheap, way to get past this part is to take the turrets out of their holders, and put them back in facing out. If you put a turret in the first, second, and fourth holders, you can hide in the third holder with a shotgun and wait.

As the combine guys walk in the, the turrets absolutely demolish them. Occasionally someone will make it past them and stumble right in front of your shotgun - BAM!

I managed to make it through that level without taking a single point of damage using this method. Even if the combine throw grenades, the turrets still stay upright because they're in the holders.

In one of those big hallways there is a small room with no light in it. What I did was take to turrets into it and have them facing outside. Then I crouched down and let them do most of the work, you have to quickly switch back and forth though between your guns and the manipulator though whenever you see a combine throw in a grenade or when you hear a manhack comming.

It worked well for me.

my friend managed to use his manipulator gun to knock a prison door a great distance and used it to barricade the room.

I hid in the alcove and cried a lot, i had about 11 health left and saved it so the last 10 or so of them was tense

on hard, which was hard

After failing to survive this about 6 times, I ended up setting up 2 turrent to both sides of the "turret hall" (where they are stored) and then grabbed one with the manipulator and backed into one of the turret storage cubbies while still holding it.

The first two turrets got knocked down fairly quickly, however, the one held in the manipulator could not get knocked out of its grasp. Funny watching a subborn combine bashing at it over and over.

If a manhack comes, shoot the turret at it, then pick it back up. Not elegent but it worked.

I love all of the varied solutions to this problem. It shows you how versatile HL2 can be.

I brought one turret with me(guess I wasn't as original as I thought) from the previous battle. I set the turrets up facing eachother(mostly) in front of an alcove. I hid in the alcove and waited with the grav gun. Every time I saw a nade, I popped it with the primary fire(and usually heard a Combine drop when it exploded). When the man hacks came I just grabbed them and shot them at the next manhack(wth a giddy hehe). I didn't have too much trouble with that section. I loved grabbling the turrets and using them as shields(that fired hehe).

After spending an hour on it dying again and again I went godmode and unleashed holy hell on the Combine. It was the ****ing manhacks, they annoy the HELL out of me.

Best tip I can give is to put the guns about 2 to 4 meters from the force field so they get a chance to kill any Combine moving in before they can knock it down. Then fortify a position at the gate you can't cover, and every 20 seconds sprint around and make sure nothing got knocked over. When the manhacks come, fire on them with the shotty.

If push comes to shove move back to the health chargers and put a couple of turrets there. Don't top off on Health or HEV, make it last.

lol wtf i can just see you going through the entire game dragging ur turrets along :p:p:p

I got pissed off and hid in the turret lockers with 3 turrets in front of me.... was quite funny to watch actually :p
