Oh yeah i heard about this. Its madness. What difference does it make if they lost money, they can just destroy a guys life for it, its their own stupid fault. It makes me sick to think that companies can be so money grabbing they would do this to a person.

This is almost as bad as the asthma thing.

Big Brother is watching you.

Seriously, it'd be better to hire the guy and then come to the source of the problem so that they eventually can improve their software. If some companies do this with hackers (that they hire to hack into their mainframe to reveal any safetygaps) why wouldn't they do it with this guy? Sueing a guy because he revealed the safetygaps in your software is just a cheap method to scare people. Just like the RIAA did with the Kazaa-sharers.

They can't see me because I am wearing a tin foil hat!

Just another step in the eventual socialist society we are becoming...

Bah! If I were him, I would sue the cd company for creating the worst software bug in history. Almost, I dont really count Windows, as its more like a mutant cockroach from space instead of a simple bug.

Actually, they've reconsidered suing him. The CEO said he didnt want to scare researchers or anything.

What an age we live in, where someone can be sued for pressing the frigging shift key.

they wont win a damn thing if they sue him........

he will counter-sue and bury them.......

Now that was said without using your brain.

I live in a country called Norway. It has a socialist democratic form of government. Its a democracy. Its called Social democratic for a number of reasons. A few being; Cheap health care. i.e cheap fees for going to the dentist. (government pays the bills) Cheap medicine. Cheap kindergarten. Free schools, free books, government sponsored universities and high schools. We are a welfare state in its true form. It doesn't mean we all go to welfare, or welfare in the US term of the meaning It just mean that we pay a little higher tax rate so that everyone can benefit. To the welfare of the young and elderly people in our country. A big safety net if you will. And we are the best country to live in according to the UN report. Also the richest country per capita. Thats socialist form of government that works. Not communist like some people from the US seems to think. But socialist.

We have a guy in Norway that became famed for breaking the copy protection of DVD`s. He and his fellow hackers in Germany made an application to copy the content of these DVD`s into Linux.
This app. also was made for Windows. So the RIAA sued him under the DMCA. (which is a US law) But the case got no where in Norway because we here in Scandinavia generally don't let companies customize laws to their profit in our country. They have no right to shut people up or scare them into not publishing a document like this. What ever happened to freedom of speech? Here you have companies that threaten the very groundwork your country was built on.

So i think you got it on the wrong foot. We don't allow our big corporations lobby in some laws in our country to fit their greedy agenda. If you want to make an application that breaks some form of copy protection that is up to you. Its not illegal. Its up to the company to protect their product whichever they see fit. And if its broken? Too bad for them. Then they need to do better work.

This is what is happening in the US. Big buck companies that lobby in laws to protect their dollars. Nothing less. Its a pity to see this happen. Its a pity that the country that proud themselves to be the home of the free punishes 12 year olds for copying a CD`s content. I don't know about you guys but do you have an act that says you can copy something for your own use? A fair use agreement?

So bashing the socialist form of government just don't cut it. At least we here in Europe don't allow companies to bash out the public at their will. Or threaten them. Punishing them and so forth. Get real. Realize the fact that the DMCA is put in by big buck corporations, and you will see.

"Take the red pill and you will see how far the rabbit hole goes".

:)

Why would the guy even tell anybody by vocal chord? There's something called the internet! Eh?

okay....seriously.....

SHIFT

My new theory is that THIS COMPANY was handeling VALVe's security.

This reminded me to do my homework

1984 is a good book.

i read it when i was 15.... maybe im just behind...

lol@the valve security joke

Their software to protect the CD's is flawed, and pointed out by a student, and they blame HIM for it? If it can be bypassed as easily as pressing the shift key, their programmers have serious mental health issues..

I suggest you take 2 prozac and consult a mental health professional in the morning.
