Suggestions Before Jan 2 For Steam?

EXCUSE: I could get it cheaper.

It's a Level 3 on Sheepo's game purchase chart.

4: Have to have ASAP
3: Get when it's as convenient/cheap as possible
2: Might get it one day. Maybe. Like 2028 and I'm a billionare or some shit.
1: Will never get.

Upgrade to level Four or I track you down and beat you up with my puny asian fists.

They should give a free New Year's present to all the memeber that own at least 10+ games.

I haven't seen anything on steam, steam's website or even on here. What is this??

My Steam page tells me I've already sunk 17 hours into Mount & Blade, so that might be a good bet too.

Edit - Wouldn't count on the story being any good, mind you. It's all about the adventure.

how is the full version?

how many different "quests" are there... playing the demo it seems you run into the same types just for different people.

deliver message from one lord to another.

Herd cattle(****ing annoying)

manhunt, kill a single criminal hiding in village.

ransom brokering.

kill looters.

defend village from looters.

bring villages items.

what I mean is these the kind of quests you keep getting or do you get other scenarios once you pass lvl 6?

Don't waste your time. I have gas cans placed at every possible entrance to this room.

There are quests where you can help a claimant to the throne of a kingdom and I believe there are some unique companion quests.

But the game really is about the battles and taking over the whole map. But there are also loads of mods for the game providing everything from new items to new quests, new units to new maps. And they update the game near constantly as well so it's always being added to. And there are plans for a sequel.

This is the best open-ended game I've ever played.

Better than GTA 4? Come to think of it I've never even heard of this game. Reggie, post some screenies!

I don't consider GTA4 open-ended. Sandbox yes but not open-ended. In this game, you can side with any nation, siege any castle, wipe any faction straight off the map.

The only other game I can think of that surpasses the feeling of freedom in this game is EVE Online.

As for screen-shots, that may not be the best way to convey the game. Because it was made by a husband and wife team, the graphics are pretty average. But it's the fluidity of the game and combat mechanics that make it so fun.

Think of it as a real-time Total War game where you actually play as someone on the battlefield.

If you are undecided, download the demo, play it all day tomorrow, become hooked, and buy it before midnight tomorrow.

Idk what you are talking about those graphics look fine to me (finally something my shit comp can play), anyways I'll check it out thanks :D.

YES BUY MOUNT AND BLADE DAMNIT. Its one of my favorite all time games to play. There isnt a whole lot of depth storywise, but god damn the game play is so fantastic. I'm playing it right now in fact. Its minimized because a friend im'd me and I decided to refresh hl2.net while i was out of it. Now im going back in and going to kill some vaegir mofuggas with my MASSIVE ARMY WHOOO.

Clearly they are not, for they are being decimated. Im working with the Khergate to weaken them, and then I shall betray them and join with the Swadians to conquer the world!

Swadians? I will accept the love of any nation but the Swadians. They are ****ing noobs.

There's a good amount of repetition in the normal quests, but more and larger things begin to gradually open up to you the more you play. Once you swear allegiance to a nation, you'll be called to duty to fight on the front lines alongside other lords, take part in sieges, hell I even got a quest to trigger a war between two nations by terrorising a bunch of trade caravans. Really though it's all about the combat and building an awesome mother****ing army. Everything else is just an excuse for that. :D

A couple of useful links I've come across if you get it -

http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,36125.0.html - Details the stats you get for each choice when creating a character. Not entirely sure if it's still up to date, but it seems close enough from the characters I've made using it.

http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,8058.0.html - M&B Battle Sizer. By default you can only have as many as 100 total troops on the battlefield at any one time. Some people prefer it this way because there are certain advantages to it (only fighting a handful of troops at a time instead of a whole army, for example), but if you're like me and you just enjoy huge epic battles, then this will let you alter it so you can have up to 1000 at a time. Note that it might crash out if your system can't handle it. I have a pretty average system and set mine to 200, never had a crash but it occasionally stutters when there's a large amount of them in one place.

http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,46290.0.html - A list of tweaks you can make to the game's config files to change certain (annoying) things. Kind of tedious to do yourself but the instructions are all there (advise you make backups first). At the moment I've tweaked it so that herds of cattle follow me instead of running away from me (you have to manually herd them by default, which is annoying as ****), and so that I can talk to village elders and guild masters from the town menus (instead of walking into town and finding them myself). Whole bunch of other stuff on there, but try vanilla M&B for a while before you go messing around with stuff.

Haven't tried any mods yet... not to turn this into an unofficial M&B thread, but any of you other guys got any recommendations? :D

@ Bad^Hat: There's a thread on the official M&B forums with loads of nice-looking mods in. But likewise, I've yet to try them out. I don't know if it was work in progress or what but there was a Roman one which looked awesome.

@Krynn: They're nearly wiped off my map completely. Bastards.

This one? http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,41715.0.html

Yeah **** sifting through that. D:

I haven't really gotten into the game far enough to start actively waging war yet, but I'm gravitating towards Swadia on the basis that they're meant to have the best troops and, well, they're in the middle, which cuts down on travel time. Also they seem kind of seem like the more sinister faction, and I really can't help myself from being a total bastard in this game. **** villagers, gimme your taxes! :D

Edit - On second look, this whole board seems to be dedicated to finished mods, and the big ones even have their own section, so that might be a good place to start.

I like the Nords and the Vaegirs because they have rivers which make good choke points for ambush and defence. I reckon the Khergits are quite good too, what with being surrounded by mountains.

Their horse archers and lancers can really **** shit up. Plus even their lowest level recruit (tribesmen) are mounted, so they are a great faction. They are barbarians though, and will be slaughtered like animals shall.

Oh shit. This is the last day. Thank god for this thread.
