Suggestions for projector

This summer I'll have some expendable cash (thanks Microsoft!) and I want to spend it on getting a projector / sound system.

Right now I'm thinking of around $1000 for the projector, with about $500 or so for 5.1 audio. I'm willing to put more into the projector and less into audio, and as a last resort I do have some more cash to throw at this.

I'll be using a white-ish wall as my projection surface for now, and will possibly move up to a screen later. I do have one window that is going to be a pain to completely close, so I'll be planning to have some ambient light for the day (so brightness will need to be a factor).

I would enjoy having it be 1080p, but I know finding a good 1080p projector for ~$1000 is hard.

This will be for an apartment (spare room we have since a roommate moved out).

I always wanted a projector but never got one. Can't help you there.

You can pretty much completely block out light with one of those pull down window shades. If you go to Home Depot, they will cut the width of it (for free) to fit fairly tight in your window, so light won't even come in around the edges. Just measure the window width first.

Cost for the shade would probably be about $20, including hardware.
