Suicide or Run?

I got this idea from the Anthrax story, the guy killed himself after learning he was just about to be convicted for the attacks.

My scenario - You've done something so bad in the eyes of others, or so illegal (could have been for a good cause), the cops are after you, and in 3 days they will bust in your house with a SWAT team and take you in, and you know this will happen in exactly 3 days.

You have 3 choices:

1) Jail - You know for a fact you WILL get raped daily by a giant fat guy named Bubba, and your life will generally just be hell, and you will be in jail for the rest of your life, until the day you die.

2) Run - You will have to live the rest of your life, until the day you die using fake names, living on the run all the time. You'll have to steal, kill, etc. to get what you need to survive. And there IS still a chance you could get caught, then end up in choice 1.

3) Suicide - You just kill yourself and end it more quickly.


I'd personally run. I think I could deal with living the rest of my life on the run using fake names stealing, etc. Atleast you still have some freedom. And hey, maybe you could somehow get out of the country and live in China or Mexico or whatever.

If it was a "good" crime, I will confess my crime and hope for proper justice.

If it was a bad crime, something I did out of rage and passion, then I'd run.

I don't think I'd ever commit suicide unless I was on the throes of being imprisoned forever.

According to Aristotle, a country is the parent of its citizens. Therefore running away from the country's laws means betraying our country - parent. This will undoubtedly cause social insecurity and harm others in acts of robbery and other crimes that will be if one chooses to run away.

On another perspective, social morality values and self preservation are in conflict with each other. Using the hierarchy conflict-solving method. social morality values which is higher than self preservation should be considered first. Thus, running away and suicide would be wrong.

However looking back to the fact that my asshole would be widened by some giant fat dude on a daily basis....
