i'm thinking of getting a new graphics card but i'm not sure what to buy. i want a graphic card that isnt so expensive and is suitable for my comp.

here's my spec

intel 3.06 Ghz with ht
gigabyte GA-8ST800 that supports agp 4x
521mb pc27 00
omni 350W

i have leadlek gf 4 ti 4200 apg 8x at the moment and it is annoyingly noisy, so i want something with really good cooling system (perhaps one of those graphic cards with silent pipes cooler)

any suggestions? (can you also give me the brand name + model name?)

thanks

i forgot to add

i want to be able to play high-end games like half life 2 and doom 3

thanks again

how many pennies have you got to spend on it. then peoples may help you

your current graphics card will run HL2 anyway.... just not uberly

Looks like you are in teh 9800pro range with that amount of money to spend. the 9800pro will run doom 3, but not well, i have to run it with low/medium settings to get a decent frame rate, and it doesn't look as pretty as it does in all those screenshots you will have seen on the net. If you can save for a while, then I would save for either the 6600gt or the x800xl. The x800xl is a great card, will play hl2 no problem, and it will also have alot more guts when it comes to doom 3.

Disabling HT improves performance by quite a bit from my experience

You're going to have to trash either the mobo or the cpu and mobo within the year...
