It was around 8PM this evening that I started craving sunflower seeds. Being as there was a Walgreens Pharmacy about a 1/4 mile away, I hopped in the car & went to buy some. See, not all sunflower seeds are created equal as any chewer will know. As a general rule of thumb, the bigger the seed, the better. David brand of seeds more or less sucks, as their seeds are small & way over salted. 10 mins after eating David brand seeds & your mouth is gonna be puckered from all the salt. Jumbo brand are better, as their seeds tend to be bigger & they do a better job roasting. Walgreen sells a 1LB bag of seeds by a company called "Deerfield Farms." Comes in a purple bag. Well their seeds are excellent. Perfectly roasted, just the right amount of salt & their seeds are big. As luck would have it there was one bag left which I eagerly grabbed & headed to the register.
As I walked to the exit, I saw an elderly woman outside about to walk in, her husband close behind. As I held the door open, the elderly lady gave me a wizened smile, which I returned. Her husband looked to be about 150 years old. A small bald head with big dumbo ears jutting out from both sides of his head & more wrinkles than... well... more wrinkles than you would think an old man would have. He smiled at me as well as he passed. As I started to walk out, I happened to glance down & stopped dead in my tracks. Partially hidden by the old mans legs, was this tiny cute blond haired girl who looked no older than 4 years old. She was wearing a colorful one piece child's jammy. As she was passing me, she looked up at me since I was still holding the door open at this time. As soon as her eyes met mine, she smiled at me. Her smile was angelic. The pure happyness that I saw reflected in her face as she smiled at me was profound. In an instant, I felt light hearted. I have never felt such power in a smile before & at the risk of sounding silly or corney, I will admit that I am happy to have been there & to have had her smile at me like she did. Even now, hours later, I still have a smile on my face.
Just thought I would share that...
