Super Mario Galaxy 2

Looks nice, but not really renewing. Actually, the trailer looked less attractive to me than vids from the original. Some graphics(I mean art, not technically) look horrible, for example the flowers.

SMG1 already pushed creativity to the max, and I wonder if Nintendo will be able to come up with something new, with the same quality.
I've sold my Wii because the lack of good games, but probably I can borrow one.

Both Mario titles put the Wii on my wanted list, but the lack of a price cut means It'll be some time before I seriously consider getting the console.

The thing is, Galaxy brought so many great ideas to the table, and then so many of them were never taken advantage of or really pushed to the limit. There's $50 of game just from the levels I thought up by looking at levels Galaxy 1 already had and saying, "Okay, that's pretty ****ing awesome, but couldn't you also go on to do this?" If they really work at this, it's gonna be a goddam masterpiece.

Trailer made me jizz in my pants.

From what I hear, Nintendo didn't put too many of their ideas into the first one and are now putting them into this. They said there would be 90-95% new stuff in the game.

Please please please make the overworld better and the game harder and I will buy a copy for me and everyone I know, over and over again.

Don't make promises you can't keep. They may look innocent, but Nintendo will have your shins broken. [racism="Japanophobic"]Because those little fellows don't punch much higher.[/racism]

I picked up Super Mario Galaxy recently, thought I better check out what all the hype was about. I've only just got onto the second observatory thing. It's pretty good, but the "cute" factor is cranked way too high like I thought it would be, and get's really annoying after a while. All those cute little high-pitched voices and cute little characters make me wince and grit my teeth, even the enemies are cute. Not my favourite art-style to put it bluntly. Also some of the stages that are particularly intensive of jump puzzles frustrate the hell outta me, mostly because I'm rubbish at them.

I'm undecided at this point whether I'd pickup a sequal, I'll have to play the original some more to take up my mind. It's possible I might start enjoying it more as I get into it.

Out of that list of 25, the only games I'm getting are Monster Hunter Tri, SMG2, and maybe Metroid: Other M and Cave Story. I'm buying the next Legend of Zelda on day one. Has that already been pushed back until next year?

This just reminds me that I only have half of the levels in the first game finished and no time to play them D:

Warbie I respect how you're a Nintendo advocate, and I appreciate almost all of the Mario and Zelda titles ever released, but there's no denying Nintendo is lazy as ****. For ****s sake, the "New Super Mario Bros." game was basically every feature from every other Mario game smashed together. I love Nintendo, but without recycling Mario and Zelda, they'd be as good as dead by now. The Wii is clearly losing its edge, the gimmick is wearing thin, and it just cannot compete with titles that are out on the other platforms, simply due to its lack of graphical and processing power. I love Nintendo as much as the next guy, but one day Nintendo has to wake up.

"Nintendo is so ****ing lazy for making the same game with new features and ideas!"

Last time I checked I didn't see Valve making "Boomer and Zoey at the 2009 Winter Olympic games" or Super Left 4 Dead 24. In fact I'd dare say L4D was a very innovative title that has pushed co-op gaming in a huge leap forward.

And while I was skeptical about the 2nd iteration... they delivered.

Seriously, people have too much Nintendo nostalgia these days. I grew up playing the first mario game, but for some reason I'm immune to the avalanche of Nintendo crap that gets released each year. Some of their games are worthy of great praise no matter how many rehashes they get, but lets not take for granted that for the few gems found every couple of years, they release an insurmountable torrent of garbage that should well be launched into space, or buried along with copies of the E.T NES game.

The first one was one of the few decent titles for the wii, makes me feel a little less bad for owning one. But this sequel looks like a rehash of the first, but with Yoshi splatted ontop.
It's not even surpising these days to be dissapointed by nintendo and their refusal to release any new and inspiring titles.

You're not comparing like for like. The Mario list comprises games of different gametype and genre - the RPGs aren't comparable to the 2D platformers, just as they aren't comparable to the 3D versions and Kart games - and your issue seems to be that they share the same main character and a similar cast and setting. Galaxy 2 will be the 4th 3D Mario platformer released since Mario 64, which is nearly 15 years old! That's hardly milking it. It's also a direct sequel to one of the most creative games there has been. I could understand criticising the Mario Party series - these are churned out without much love - but for game building on Super Mario Galaxy! :rolling:

The problem Nintendo has - other than now having to cater for every casual gamer on the planet - is that each generation they are expected to bring out a new Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, F-Zero, Star Fox, Smash Bros, Pilot Wings, Pikmin etc (how many developers can boast such a list of original IPs btw?). If these games don't turn up, or aren't of the highest quality, tantrums soon follow. It's like Valve with Half Life - the difference being Nintendo have around 10 times the number of IPs to maintain and have been maintaining them for 10 years longer.

Some new IPs would be nice, but there's also no harm in recycling charatcers or settings as long as the standard remains high. Look at it this way - what would be the sense in Nintendo coming up with a new charatcer for a platform game?

//edit

"New Super Mario Bros." game was basically every feature from every other Mario game smashed together.

And co-op. Playing through NSMB in with a friend (2 player, 4 was just insane!) has been a personal highlight of this gen.

I understand what you're saying - let's ditch the sports games with Mario tacked on - but not the expense of the decent titles. Take Bowser's Inside Story. It's one of the better written games of this gen. It's certainly the best jrpg. It doesn't suffer from being a Mario game just as Zelda doesn't suffer from being a Zelda game. Here, having a sense of history and heritage is a benefit.

:)

Star Fox on the Wii makes so much sense - it must happen!

The only similarity between Super Paper Mario and Mario Kart Double Dash (to pick two random Mario games) is the cast. Nintendo is just Tim Burton: They put the same people in every game, regardless how how different they are (I won't deny the Zeldas are similar, but there's normally only two per generation). Half-Life and Left 4 Dead are more similar than New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Tennis.

So Helena Bonham Carter is playable for the next Smash Bros.?

Mario Galaxy was the best "pure" gaming experience I'd had in years, and perhaps still to this day. This looks like another dose of the same goodness, if nothing spectacularly fresh.

I like Warbie simply for the fact I can have my own opinion and not get massacred for it. Therefore, I respect Warbie and his opinion. Learn a hard lesson from this Hl2.net

Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks absolutely glorious. Like Bad^Hat said, it was the best pure gaming experiences of the past few years. The whole game had this sensation of freedom that I've felt in maybe four games ever.

So Helena Bonham Carter is playable for the next Smash Bros.?

I just realized the Deus Ex reference in your sig is wrong. Gunther says "No, I wanted orange! It gave me lemon-lime".

Carry on.

One of these days i am gonna have to get myself a Wii.

I kind of liked the observatory to be honest. Looks good none the less!
