Hey, I am looking for help with my mod: Super Smash Source.
That will feature Super Smash like battles with characters taken from PC games.
I already started coding and I am especially in need of someone who can model the characters and preferably also animate them. But all other help is welcome!

Erm.. I hope you will get permission from EVERY company your going to take a character from.

I think that that will not be a big problem as the mod is not like the games the characters are from and is free, so neither we make money with their characters nor we cost them profit.

Very basic website up and running:

One of the only problems I have with this project (aside from lack of originality) is it doesn't seem like it would be as fun. I'm not big into online multiplayer, so I'm in the minority. For me multiplayer games should be on consoles and people should actually sit around together and have fun. That was one of the things the original Smash games achieved and I'm not sure how well it would carry over.

Also, give this a view. http://www.andyvincent.co.uk/?p=57

Well... Can I get some kind of info on what characters your going to be using?

I thought we were passed the phase of newbs randomly deciding to port established franchises to Source? Like 3 years ago.

I wanted to make a mod for some time and especially a fighting type game, as there are not many of those for the pc. It is easier to work towards a game design that is already been tested so you are not randomly trying things. I chose to do a super smash like game because that game is easily expanded to allow for more than 2 players like the usual fighting games and because I felt it allows you to while keeping the basic ideas from the original by using other characters with different abilities it will turn out quite different then the original.

A few examples for characters I was thinking of:
- Zealot (Starcraft)
- Raz (Psychonauts)
- Prince of Persia

Note that this are just some examples, if someone comes up with a great idea ( and a model ;) ) I'll be happy to include that one.
I plan on starting with just like two characters to start with and make them work and after that keep adding new ones.

I'd say source is the wrong engine to try this on, youd be better of with an engine actually built for melee combat.

If I want to play SB I would buy the games. :|

I want to see Lara Croft, with at least 4k polys in the chest area, and I want the breasts full rigged and boned with individual animations and physics. If you can do that, I will play.

That is irrelevant. You are using their trademarked characters, that is illegal, and will result in a cease and desist.

Fighters definitely. Racers maybe. 3-way Secret of Mana, most definitely (although Return to Mana still piqued my interest). But not most other types of multiplayer (RTS/FPS/MMORPG/etc.) work way better on PC. I understand what you're saying about the social element being more tangible and immediate, but the interface for most games is better on the PC.

Agreed, if I had to choose between playing an rts, or fps on split screen with my mates next to me. Or full screen without them, I know I'd choose the antisocial option =]

Even in those situations, I'd rather just have two computers or consoles and be near someone. My girlfriend and I play games pretty casually, and most of the fun comes from being with each other to do it.

I often play wearing just my boxers. Now I know I'm pretty sexy, but it can make people feel pretty uncomfortable, having me writhe around my chair first thing in the morning, peeling my particulars off the inside of my leg, in full view of everyone.
