SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV

WOO. Got my copy in the mail. Ready to get my ass kicked!

IF any of you bros are getting this for the 360 my gamertag is JakklesTheDark so I can go cody crazy on you.

I already got you oh god I'll be picking this up sometime this week oh god I'm going to f*ck your Cody up with my Dan the Saikyo arts are the best oh god oh god.

I'll own you up tomorrow. Still need to get some practice in with Cody/Dudley. Or I can just bro it out with Balrog.

How many of you bros got a fighter stick? 'Cause you will get wrecked, son. Lucky for you, they keep you protected by the boundaries of your console playpens.

I'm just joking by the way, there are some great players on the consoles too. But seriously who here has an arcade stick?

Very casual SFIV player here. I only use one character(Zangief). Don't feel like learning the other characters. I also don't use any of that ultra/super ultra BS. Probably won't bother with SSFIV because of the reasons mentioned above.

I've got one.

Also cody is way too much fun to play as. His only downfall is, if I let someone put pressure on me, the only real way I have of getting out of it is an EX zonk punch.

BINGO

I do.

I've got one that works on all the last gen systems, but I have a controller box to use it on my PC.

I kinda wrote off cody when he was announced, but I ****ing love this guy. he's fun as hell to use.

ya everyone seems to like Cody alot
gonna have to give em a shot soon
I'm being a Dudley whore atm . . .

Dudley, another favorite of mine. Lots to learn...

My best player is E. Honda. Fiercely wreck your shit! I'm rusty now, but it wouldn't take long before I could take him to the top 10 or top 100 in the world.

The really fast moving characters give me the most trouble though, my reaction time isn't what it used to be.

I'm in the process of modding mine right now, gathering up my laundry list of parts. Complete overhaul, might go for the JLF Ultimate mod, funds permitting. I will eventually do it, but I'd like to do it sooner rather than later. Also working on my custom art, it's gonna be pretty sick: it's a grungy splash with a bunch of lyrics from vocal fighting game songs "graffitied" on it. For all you Cody fans in this thread, yeah, I'm putting "TURN THE BEAT BACK" on it.

Also how many PS3 'netters have this so far? Add me: EmperorDarkside. Come and get knocked breathless.

Goddamn this move is so good

super armor

delayable

lol I throw u

I'll add you at some point

Abel's one of my favs too although I have yet to really experiment with Breathless...

we need to get some hl2.net team battles going on ASAP

I'm "C0RR4D0--" on PSN

Yeah, the team battle stuff is fun. Also come July we can get some HL2.net tournaments going.

With regard to breathless, start playing around with it. I'm not going to say it replaces soulless (I don't think I'll ever say that), but it's just so good. AA, comes out retarded fast, bait jumps and cancel -> falling sky, punishes from 3/4 screen. I fought an Ibuki that was trying to play keep away with kunai, and I was like "El oh el."

Been thinking about picking this up, but I have very little experience with fighting games. I played a bunch of the Street Fighter Alpha collection for PS2 with a friend of mine, as well as SF4 with a group. Either this or 3D Game Heroes at this point.

Alright, time to fess the **** up. A long time back I read and wrote about some fighting game bullshit regarding some Soul Caliber and some Melee and Brawl, specifically in regards to the relative level of depth and difficulty of the games. I now know after a month or two of SFIV and the last two days of SSFIV that I had no ****ing clue what I was talking about. This game takes skills. No casuals need seriously apply to fighting in the street. It doesn't help that I'm using a ****ing 360 controller but there are no ****ing excuses. By the apple in my ass the learning curve to this game is like a combination arse-whisk sentient rape-robot.

But. None. The. Less. I will prevail.

I now embark on a quest to master this thing, this harmony of cunning in disc form. It will not be easy, it will not be nice, but THE SAIKYO ARTS WILL RULE YOU ALL.

any other PSN SS fighters out there? can't be bothered to scan the whole thread so copy/paste and post up here:

Buying this tomorrow. It's cool as shit that it's so cheap too. £22 new, that's just beautiful. Haven't spent much time on a fighting game since Street Fighter 2, and I barely understood what was going on back then. Safe to say I'll be staying away from the online for a while.

Well, spent quite a bit of time with it and I truly suck. I can't remember ever feeling so unskilled with a game. Part of the problem, other than lazy reflexes, is managing the controls. Half the time I know what I want to do but I rarely manage to execute it properly resulting in a lot of jumping and crouching when I don't want to. This is gonna take time. I feel true respect for anyone who is actually good at this game.

Still fun though, as well as enraging and addictive. I was ready to ragequit earlier until I gave M. Bison a go and started to suck a whole lot less. Still can't pull off most combos for shit though, and always hit a brick wall about in the fight after the barrel challenge during arcade, and that's only on medium. When my girlfriend gets back tomorrow I can try out the versus, which was the main reason for buying it in the first place.

Also, is it worth getting one of those MadCatz Fightpads? They're relatively cheap and bound to aid control but the thought of buying a controller for one game puts me off a bit.

keep practicing. make use of the challenge mode/training
and yes, if you're using the stock pad (especially the 360's), the fightpad is much better

How the hell did I miss this release! Got to order this right away.

Don't know about the Fightpads but DO NOT get the arcade stick. Atleast mine broke down like twice, in the end the store I bought it from called me and told me that I don't have to use that crap anymore, just bring it back and take a game or something (which was really nice).

DO NOT get the arcade stick
This is not good advice. This is the opposite of good advice. What's that called again? Oh yeah, bad advice.

Of course, it depends on whether you're talking about the SE (shitty out of the box), SSFIV TE (good), or SFIV TE (great). The SE though is great for modding. I mean, you'll probably end up spending about as much as you would buying a TE now, but back when TEs were going for like $300 on eBay, $60 + like $25 minimum was a good deal. It'll run you about $50+ to replace the stick and the six face buttons, but you can at least pick and choose your parts.

Anyone who's thinking of buying a fight pad, I'd recommend against it. The reason being, you are always going to be gimped on a controller. You might do good, you might even lay the smackdown on people, but you're really just putting yourself at a disadvantage. It's like playing a flight sim without a flightstick. You're gonna spend $40 on a fightpad anyway, might as well just pony up $20 more and buy an SE. You CAN use it out of the box, it's not unusable. Can be kind of horrendous and aggravating, though. But I mean, if you're going to spend money on a peripheral, why would you settle for a controller?

I had the cheap one, not the tournament edition. It didn't feel bad, it just broke down every time. I think the second one lasted like 2 hours before going bonkers.

I had to replace switches about 6 times in my stick. They're good for like a million presses.

The easiest thing to do when you replace a cherry switch would be to crimp or solder a 'female terminal connector' to the end of the controller wires, instead of soldering to the new switches every time. Do them one at a time so you don't get the wires mixed up.

Female terminal connector:

Solder the wires from your controller to some of those, so when you replace the cherry switches, you don't have to solder or de-solder the controller wires every time. Instead you can just slide the terminal connectors on.

Every button - even the joystick is actuated with cherry switches. (The joystick uses 4). A photo of a cherry switch. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a place to buy them for very cheap. You can even replace them with illuminated buttons if you want. (you'd have to replace the buttons too).

I would never want to use a gamepad for SF.

I rock a SE, but I plan to buy new parts for it because a few of the buttons aren't working 100%.

Another thing you can do with certain sticks is take the bottom off and put a 2.5 or 5 lb. weight in the bottom, then put the back cover back on. This will make it much more stable and less likely to lift when you're playing.

But first, if the weight is metal (and not plastic and sand) wrap the weight in plastic wrap like 6 layers thick, because it conducts electricity, obviously.

I prefer my stick secured to the floor, like in an arcade cabinet, but this will be out of the question for most people.

Really. Don't you miss your specials sometimes?

I don't like the base to move at all, if possible. You know, like an arcade machine.

Currently, I have a stand and I sit in front of it with my knees pressed against the stand, holding it even steadier. But I plan to build a cabinet when the time is right.

Here are some examples of a setup I would use:

And here's a Street Fighter 4 arcade machine:

A moving base would be like someone constantly moving your keyboard around while you type. I don't know how that would make it easier for you, but I guess you could get accustomed to it.
