Not that excited this year but I'm hoping for a good game and for Brady to break his spine.

GO GIANTS!

Im a rugby player, NFL never really interested me.

But hey, since your supporting giants then

GO PATRIOTS

Go team!

Kick a ball!

Catch it!

Go!

Football!

go pats n stuff

NBC's Brotherhood of Man commercial was nifty, not to mention that they had the cast of Community in it too.

I love Helmet Touch, can't wait for the Steel Packers to take it to the limit

YEAH GO GIANTS BECAUSE **** THE PATRIOTS. I only marginally care.

I want the Pats to lose because Brady bad mouthed my region and he said something shitty about our hotel services which probably just treated him bad because hes a ****ing douchbag of a person (hes an amazing football player, but that is all)

Why does it last so long? More has happened in my bowel movements.

NO.

And because **** the cheatin ass pats. I ain't forgettin that darn tootin' cheatin from that ****ed up spy season.

Same sort of retarded logic can be used for anything. Like what you do on a daily basis:

Rakurai Tenjin warned me about this.

A: You completely misinterpreted my post

B: Me going on the internet is not a nationally televised event

C: You're really stupid

It was pretty obvious that you were making fun of football and how millions get excited for the superbowl so I don't think I misinerpreted anything.

It's a sport that people are interested and get really excited about. It represents a lot of things to a lot of people and isn't soley based on the game mechanics. Like I said, the same logic can be applied to anything anyone has interest in that makes them really excited.

I've been paying more attention to the game than usual this year, so I was pretty excited for it. Always been a Giants fan, and used to be super into it as a kid. I watched the last few regular season games, so was excited to see how spectacularly they played in the playoffs. When i realized that they'd be facing the Patriots, I was even more excited because I don't like most Patriot fans, and I had a really good time at the last Pats V Giants superbowl game, so nostalgia took hold.

I present the, by far, best Superbowl commercial aired in Chicago this year.

Why are you saying these words to me? You misinterpreted my post. I said that in point A because it was the most important point. I was not trying to trivialize or make fun of football in any way. I mean, this isn't a matter of debate. I was just making a silly post that showed my naivete on the subject and tried to sound like I was part of the hype. It was just an intentionally stupid attempt at humor. The fact that you interpreted it the way you did caught me completely off guard and that made me laugh. The example you chose to try to counter my nonexistent intention was really stupid, though. That went in point B.

No soccer is cer of socing, didn't you know? Silly euros.

So that was the first time I've ever watched even half a game of US football, and by damn that is an interesting game.

Hyper-formalised transfers of possession.
Territorial control along a linear span.
Rules of engagement that allow anyone to tackle anyone, leading to player positions whose entire point is to stop others from beating up your actually-important people.
Aggressive hyper-militarism.

Honestly, the closest thing I can liken that to was Battlefield 1942.

They even have different offensive and defensive lines. Everyone changing classes as the team starts to lose?

Not nearly enough vehicle camping to be likened to BF1942.

You can bet that if NFL introduced fighter planes and jeeps that players would camp them.

It's probably the most tactical sport out there. I just hate how it's a constant stop-and-go type game with no consistent action. Makes it boring after a couple minutes of them trying to set everything back up.

That's my problem too. The fact that stop-and-go-s occur is what allows a lot of the game's tactical mechanics to take form, but the actual playing of the game is 5 seconds uptime, 30 seconds downtime, and it's ridiculous. Although I guess that's what makes it so conducive to get-togethers with friends.

Actually, anyone can't tackle anyone. There are penalties for say hitting the kicker.

That's why I never got into hockey. Seemed like everytime I tried to watch a game, every other minute there's an icing call or something that results in the stoppage of play and a face-off.

Thats why its far more enjoyable to watch when you're watching with a group of people who know the game. Part of the fun is trying to anticipate what kind of play will come next, and everyone discusses it in the downtime. After doing two run plays, with 6 yards to go for a first down, do you run again, do a playaction, or just a straight up pass? Are the other team's cornerbacks off their game? Should the receivers run slants, or maybe short hooks? Its fun coming up with your own idea and seeing how the coach's decision lines up.

In this game for instance, there was the last touchdown by the Giants to put them ahead, and they actually DIDN'T want to score that touchdown. The running-back instinctively went for the touchdown, and only in the last second did he remember that he wasn't supposed to score. How many other sports have tactical decisions like that? Its one of the reasons why I like football more than any other sport like basketball or soccer. There is so much more thought put into every play.

Yeah, I don't think it's a coincidence that the sport's rise coincided with the spread of television.

It didn't seem like that much of a wait between each play to me, but then I was engaged in questioning my housemate about how it all worked. The game loses something in lacking the flow and pace of association football, but it's interesting in a kind of different way. Then again, AF/soccer/ACTUAL FOOTBALL is pretty thinky and tactical as well; it's just its tactics tend to segue into the flow of a longer game. Starcraft versus Frozen Synapse.

Wait, so, why didn't they want to score? I didn't watch long enough to catch this bit as I had to go to bed.

Does no one here watch rugby? Tactical, fast paced (it doesnt stop every 5 seconds), very physical, more so than nfl Id say (Ive played both).

Rugby's basically all we watch here. S'okay.

Yeah well its the same in South Africa. My point is its alot more interesting to watch than nfl or soccer/football.

There was a little under one minute left of game time. The Giants were in the redzone (within 20 yards of the endzone), and had plenty of plays before needing to attempt to score. They were down by two, and all they needed was a fieldgoal to win (gives them three points). After scoring you have to kick off to the other team, so the Giants wanted to waste as much time as possible before kicking the ball back to the Patriots. They could have gotten the time clock down to under 20 seconds if they used up all their downs to run down the clock rather than quickly scoring. In fact, it sounds like the patiots actually let the running back through to score, as a strategem for allowing themselves more time to score, since a Giants go-ahead score was all but unavoidable at that point.

Bradshaw's reaction was pretty hilarious to watch. He just stopped like a foot in front of the endzone, and was like wait... shit shit shit and just fell backwards into the endzone after trying to stop himself.

EDIT: Haha, still makes me laugh. Watch it before its taken down.
