This game is awesome.

Seriously awesome. It's a "geopolitical simulator" and lets you choose any country from a list of 150 to start from summer 2001. It's main focus seems to be military, but political and economic policies are extremely important as well.

I started out with South Korea (duh :P), and as soon as I started I attacked North Korea and subsequently annexed it. I took a lot of damage, but since I started out with the world's 10th greatest Army, it wasn't that hard. I continued to grow military strength, and did a terror attack on Japan, which subsequently invaded, and I annexed it without too much effort, in part thanks to Russia and various other nations.

After that I helped out Israel with its war with Syria. I was without an Air Force after it was obilerated by North Korea and Japan, and took heavy damage due to Syrian bombers. But I still pressed forward and annexed it.

It turned out to be a mistake, however, because almost all the middle eastern nations started to hate me. Egypt remained neutral, however. The United Arab Emirates tried to do a terror attack, but failed, so I invaded and annexed again.

For the next year, I concentrated on the economy and social policies, until I got bored and tried to stage a coup in China.

I failed, and China invaded.

I had unwittingly started World War 3.

For the next few months after the Chinese invasion, my forces were pushed far back, into Pusan, and lost most of my provinces in Japan. My "Middle East Expeditionary Force" was sent back into the mainland.

My forces were halved by the onslaught of the Chinese invasion, but the Chinese fared worse; they were completely decimated by Russia, in which I had good relations with, and my very own forces. I took the opportunity with my superior quality infantry and armor to regain lost territory and annex Manchuria.

At this time, I had nearly 300,000 infantry and ranked 2nd in terms of manpower, and 5th in terms of Army, and 7th in the Navy.

China and its middle eastern allies tried desperately to stop my forces, but I still annexed mongolia and Beijing, and most of the Eastern coast of China. The United States attackd Saudi Arabia, and the US and I divided it in half.

As I was now a world Superpower, it became increasingly hard to gain new territory without angering the US or Russia. So I gave 2 provinces of Saudi Arabia to the US (which then started to love me) and formed an Alliance.

My forces are now fighting in Vietnam, which has a surprising amount of manpower, and parts of the Middle East and southeast asia. It seems to be that the UK has gained control of India, and Canada has started to grow militarily.

I love this game.

It's not awesome, it's OK but there are better games out there, although most of them are older.

There's Shadow President and CyberJudas both for MS-DOS, there's Supreme Ruler 2010(modern), and there's Supreme Ruler 2020 on the way.

There's also G.P.S.(Geo Political Simulator), a followup to a game released in france last year, http://www.geo-political-simulator.com/ .

Well, this was the first geopolitical simulator I've ever played, so my impression of this was OMFG AWESOME! :p

I gotta check out Supreme Ruler; sounds to my liking. :D

Also gotta check out Hearts of Iron as well, I love those 'historical' simulators.

Supreme Ruler 2010 has some problems with the AI but its still a good game, 2020 will probably be like twice as good.

Also, yes, check out ALL historical simulators made by Paradox(Which btw is Swedish ;)), including Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, Victoria, Hearts of Iron series.
The correct historical timeframe is CK>EU>Victoria>HoI.

Ooh, Europa Universalis? Lots of people here like it, but I never got to try it.... Heh, I'm gotta try those sometime. :D

If you think that game is comprehensive, try playing Hearts of Iron II. It is a global WWII simulation game where you can run any nation you want. It makes Superpower 2 look like Risk.

I'm so glad that numbers isn't the leader of a world superpower right now.

That sounds ****ing metal, and I agree with theotherguy.

That game is way too unrealistic Numbers. Since when do we grow militarily? ;)

Yeah, I need to try that. I've heard that if you start out with Korea you can stop Japan from annexing us in 1910.

Thanks to this game, I have now made it my goal in life to be the Leader of Korea and make it into a world superpower. :D

Yeah, I know. I went literally WTF? when I got the message Canada was building 20,000 infantry, and was developing missle defence.

You can't Numbers, Hearts of Iron 2(Even with the Doomsday and Armageddon addons), is like 1935-1965.

You can however play Victoria: Revolutions as Korea, and then convert the save to HoI2DDArma, but the conversion isnt flawless, and if you want to play the games improved with mods, that makes the conversion a whole lot harder because you have to mod it yourself.

I love Superpower, me and my mates used to play it on the school PCs back in the day, good fun.

I loved Medieval 2, and that was so limited in these aspects. How hard is HoE2?

Oh well, I'm still gonna try it anyway, because my friend is a huge fan of Paradox.

You could start the game in 1936, use cheats to create an independent Korea, then reload it as Korea.

I'll be checking out the HoI 2 demo later. :D

If it feels anything like Civilization 4 it should be fun-ish.

The graphics in HoI2 are horrible, don't expect anything from it on that front.

xlucidx, don't compare HoI(Or any paradox grand strategy games) to Civ series, the Civ series are still merely strategy, the Paradox strategy games are -HISTORICAL SIMULATIONS-, we're talking hundred of events coded into the game for tens of different nations.

Besides, I wouldn't call the graphics horrible, they get the job done.

Infact I prefer the 2D graphics of HoI2 over EU3s 3D graphics.

I've been playing superpower 2 and it's OK.

I feel however, the diplomacy needs improved, I don't think it's possible for instant to request military help from an ally, or co-ordinate an attack or something like that.

I don't really care about graphics when it comes to strategy, I actually prefer Alpha Centauri over any of the Civ games... except maybe for Civ3.

Never tried a game like Hearts of Iron though, installing it as we speak.

From what I remember, the demo didn't really show the game at all. You'd be better of pirating it first then deciding to buy. Also, keep in mind that the learning curve for this game is steep and sharp, more like a learning vertical ascent than anything. It is very easy to get overwhelmed at first.

The good points of HOI2:
-It is comprehensive in its details
-You can control any nation
-You have unlimited options

The bad points:
-Graphics are dull
-MP is very buggy
-AI has less intelligence than an amoeba

In my opinion, the good points far outweigh the bad. After a while you have to move to multi player though because the AI is so weak. In the older patch, as Germany I managed to completely annex the entire world by 1941 starting in September of 1938. MP is very fun, but you need a dedicated crew to play with. You can't just hop into a random game. Most MP games I have been in have taken about a week if we play every night, or a month or two if we play less often. Remember to save every month (of game time) because you can guarantee that there will be crashes.

Oh well, I'll take your word for it.
