Supreme Commander demo tmr!!!

Ok how do you guys think these systems would run the game, and which would be better?

Intel Duo 2 (2ghz)
2GB Ram
Radeon x1400 w/ 256mb

or

Intel 3.06 Ghz
1GB Ram
Nvidia 6800 Ultra (256mb)

first system will run it much better. Supcom is much more CPU intensive than GPU. Supcom is also multithreaded, so dual core systems will dramatically increase performance. The second system will run very slowly, I'm guessting 15-20 FPS maximum. On the first system you will be hampered by the videocard, so you'll have to turn down the fidelity to get better FPS.

For some reason this game fails to grab my interest. I guess I'm biased towards futuristic games.

There seems to be veterancy in the game based on this link. Anyone know what are the bonuses for each level of veterancy? Too bad it's a bit hard keeping units alive in this game.

Also the damage values for this game is a bit insane. The cybran ACU's overcharge cannon does over 100k damage. D:

So it seems, but as you said the units die so fast that it would be poinltess to have veterancy.

Just tried it, runs terrible. I tried duel screen though so that's probably why. Really like the idea of duel screen games even if I feel really geeky, lol. :D

Defiantly feels like you need a big CPU or RAM to run it.

Duel view screeny (really cool):

Dual screen looks pretty cool actually.

And for veterancy thing, works best with ACU's and the SCU's. Makes for awesome pwnage if you have enough of em. Or the T4 units.

But what does the veterancy levels do to a unit?

Also it runs alright about 40 fps max to about 10-15 fps when there are loads of units onscreen

It's useful because you can have one screen on satellite mode, then the other on zoom in. Or, you can have one screen watching your base then the other watching the battlefield. So cool, really useful for this game.

Also oddly enough, the first campaign mission runs sluggish compared to the mission afterwards

Does anyone find the medium difficulty setting in skirmish much easier than Easy?

That is badass. I wish I could do that.

I'm not aware of when Veterency kicks in, I know the last time I played the Beta I didn't see one. Maybe they disabled it for that part, not sure. Might be in the full version?

As for the game getting sluggish. yeah, that's how it was on the beta. I'm hoping the game gets more optimized as time goes, but at least the game is still playable while choppy.

I was just using fraps to see fps

I think veterancy just gives the unit more firepower, it used to restore all their health too, but I think they took that part out.

Great tutorial ....

So, how do you rotate your viewpoint?

I got it running smooth, everything is on low except some weird thing that displays the floor texture which is on medium, it looks alright, the gameplay just takes over though.

Got another duel screen shot. My other monitor I use like a big mini-map. :D

Ah, I see they never fixed that bug. In the initial build, Easy and Medium AI was actually switched on accident. I think they still have them labelled incorrectley

I'm pretty sure all the ai's have been simplified for the demo

Simplified/flawed.

I just played a skirmish game and their commander stopped moving about halfway through and didn't move again even when I was destroying him. They also never go for air :(

Anyone find out any cheats for the demo?

Like unlimited resources? Instant Unit Production? etc.

I Don't know if they will have cheats for the demo. They turned them off on the beta, they will probably keep em off for this. People were finding out some parts of the story a little early.

While it's fun and seems similar to Warzone 2100 in a few cases... it suffers from quite a few things in Warzone 2100.

I feel like I need to tech to the end. I almost feel like I need to. This simply isn't what I like. I take all this time to get to where I can build everything before I actually attack. Which isn't my exact cup of tea. I'm use to RTS's(Wc3 and Sc), where even the first [non-gathering] units you can be end-game units.

You can have a shitload of T1 units and win, as long as you keep him on the ropes with them. Same thing in Starcraft, You can't expect to win with 100 marines vs 20 carriers....

heh if someone has 20 carriers, then it's probably a money map, which i'd shoot you for playing especially if you then decided to only have 100 marines. Then again, the marines would pwn the intercepters quite quickly..... hmm.... Especially if you happen to have a zerg as an ally, a quick dark swarm and you would easily take out the cruisers.

Hmm maybe i'll try it out more. But idk, the games fun but maybe it's not my cup of tea. I just don't feel like i'm forced to expand. The only tech games I like are ones that in order to tech I need to expand and in order to expand I am going to have to fight. (Which is why the map "Civilization Emerald" is my favorite Sc map).

you could find out the entire story without cheats

That was always one of the high points of TA-inspired RTS games. You can and do build T1 units till the end for one reason: They are cheap and allow you to expand quickly. Many battles are won and lost with swarms of T1 units, all you have to do is maintain a steady stream and you're sure to win. A porcer can maintain himself for some time, but he will always lose to someone who constantly sends a barrage of T1 and T2 at him.

I agree though that some of the expansion that was in TA was taken out by SupCom. This is because the mass fabricators are cheap and use comparitively little energy when compared to the ones in the original TA. Even so, an expanded base with multiple levels of production will be much better in the long run of any game, because the enemy can't mass his forces on one location.

In the end, though, if you have two very good players, the game will come to a T2 Porcing standstill until one team produces enough T3 or T4 units to break through the line.

Also, playing on a wide open map helps tremendously for the fast on-your-toes gameplay that is won mostly by T1 units.

I see your point, but the thing is... I feel like I almost "have to keep on pushing" into the next tier because theres an insane amount of more energy you can make. However, I don't feel like i'm being forced to expand/attack while i'm tiering. So I feel like i'm spending all this time tiering, and then building an army. Which makes me mad because I'd rather just go straight to the end. Idk, maybe if there were more maps on the Demo.

It's just the feeling the game gives me, that turns me off.

With some of the top players from the beta, watching them kick ass, you will notice they will be popping out massive t1 units, while not so fast like teching up. The first person to tech isn't always to the one to win. I've been in numerous occasions when I'd hit T2 fast, but since he has all the T-1 units amassed insanely, I'd lose.

it's all about balance

and the beta ends in about an hour now :(

I know what you mean. But I still just can't get past the feeling that I gotta tech. I understand that it isn't a tech race, but I can't help shake the feeling that I have to be teching up.

It's just me.

a pretty good strategy is to have a bunch of factories pumping out t1 guys and then have only a few or only one teching up

That's how I was when I first started playing. I was like, "OH SHIT GOTTA TECH TECHGC HSTHSTHIOHA@$!" But then after watching some replays, and getting raped *all the time, thanks Hazy* that feeling just..dropped. But I do hear what you're sayin'.

:D

it really all depends on your situation.

if you're on a small map, you better spam units or you'll get owned.

However, on large maps its useless 'cause you can tech faster than the units can get there

I generally rush to Broadswords on bigger maps...they never fail me :D
