A new Steam update has been released tonight, which gives you the ability to browse the internet while in game including web sites that use flash.

  • Updated game overlay web browser to support generic web browsing, including web sites that use flash
  • Fixed games list scrolling behavior with pageup/pagedown and mouse wheel
  • Fixed GTA4 backups not restoring correctly
  • Fixed several cases where matchmaking would not work in Left 4 Dead in using Cafe accounts
  • Changed Friends to be enabled for Cafe accounts
  • Removed 'view invites' dialog on startup, now clicking on a group/user invite toast will take you directly to the Community control page
  • Fixed guest passes not showing immediately in games list
  • Fixed case where a user would be told a guest pass had expired after they had bought the full game
  • Improved Steam Windows Service restart logic in serveral places

Awesome update! (He edited that conversation, I never said those words!)

Those comments do not reflect the views of the management.

:D I've been waiting for this for a long time..

i would still like valve to implement multi-IM into the steam friends.. but meebo.com shall have to do for now

( for those who dont know meebo.com is a multi-IM you can use in your brower i thought it came in handy )

Its awesome that they fixed the steam backup thing for GTA IV, but now I cant play it because of a securom error that I wasnt getting before the update. I also got banned from steam chat because of it. *glares at AciD*

what is this pimp my steam?:afro:

Also, useful features are great.

I now have a reason to allow myself to run some of the games I have through steam.

Yo dawg we put a game store in yo game so you can buy counterstrike while you play counterstrike.

Now I can play Quake Live while playing CS:S.

Let the AFKing begin.

Very useful, although it was a bit slow in the beta so don't don't know if it's quicker now.

I always knew Digi and Glenn were at it....! :O

Good thing you took screen shot for a news. I don't know what I'd do without this news. It's quite a news.

...:D

Awesome, btw.

Oddddddd feature, in my opinion, but I imagine it'll catch on. I like the immersion they present in their games, and this is the last thing I'd want to do during a game.

Hurrah! Now I have something to do when I get killed 10 seconds into a CS:S game :D

I can't seem to log into hl2.net forums via the steam browser. On the other hand, it's entirely possible I've just forgotton my password.

Gmail works just fine and dandy in this, which saves me having to alt+tab out to deal with those convos. Great.

Nah, they should just make Steam its own independent OS.

Steam or Valve operating system? MSN in game support? Bidding on ebay while playing Left 4 Dead? This is the future of gaming!

It's very cool that they added this feature! It'll be a little easier to lookup walkthroughs for games while I'm playing them, now.

...Although posting pics on /b/ is a hassle.

It would be cool if they eventually added favorites, history, and other typical browser features.

Nice feature, very handy.

I was thinking about this only the other day, and how I would like to browse the web during L4D respawns :)
