ok, so is the US basically saying; "we dont have enough evidence to legally convict you of anything, so we'll lock you up forever instead"?

what happened to speedy trials and statutes of limitation?

I probably wont argue in this one, but its an interesting development never the less

The US has had these sorts of things for years, in which people would be locked upfor indefinite periods of time on grounds of suspicion. But lifetime detention? I don't care if it is set up all nice and comfy. That's just ****ing crazy.

But that's my initial reaction. I'd need to know a lot more if I want to make an informed opinion.

Reason why they are doing this is to give the interrogators more time to get info.

Still wrong...but thats reality.

Holding people indefinitely because you don't have enough evidence?
WTF?

That's like saying "Oh no! A murder has been commited! We don't know who did it but, just to be safe, we will lock Tron in prison forever."

Nevar!!!

Anyways don't take my post serious...it was just an assumption, because well....the CIA/NSA like to do things like that in order to get more time to break the terrorist in and get the information.

Also don't think of it like that "not enough evidence".It's not really a trial or anything...they're trying to get information on taliban postions and movement...etc.

Exactly... there are no trials...

And while alot of people wont care about this (they are just guys captured possibly fighting US troops) dont forget about the dangerous precident it sets (you wouldnt want the same thing happenening to you one day when FEMA takes over the world or something would you? lol :p)

Well FEMA can bite my shiny metal ass.

That's quite..what's the word? Stalinistic? Is that a word? Screw you it is now.

"liberty" and "freedom" are the new bullshit words of the 21 st century

But we need it to protect our beloved citizens from the Terrrrists!

You're from Finland...

Too be honest, no American can ever say "America, land of the free" anymore, as that is complete and utter bullshit. And America is becoming worse then China is, when it comes to human rights abuses.

nobody is worse than China and North Korea "the menace". :O

Well China is certainly getting better, they are better than cuba nowdays, and in 50 years will be probably like europe or the pre-Bush era U.S.
North-Korea is as far as I know the worst folled by Iran.

i agree, its obvious that iran is trying to make nuclear weapons, but why?, to attack the US, if it tries to invade (which i highly doubt)

and i dont know what too say about N Korea. That is 1 troubled country, they allow no cameras or media inside their country, most of thier citizens/prisoners havnt got a clue whats goin on outside of N korea, EVEN dont know what happening in thier own country. An American living in N Korea for 30 years left the country last year, and he didnt even know who the last 5 presidents of the USa were, thats shocking. , btw N Korea has tonnes of nuclear and atomic weapons, :(

Yep, the world is going to hell.

Theyre not American Citizens, they are terrorists.. so **** it.

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? how do you even know they came from Afghanistan and not the streets of Chicago?? nothings gone through a court

actually there's quite a few americans, canadians, brits and peeps of all nationalities ...in fact there was a case of a man from canada who was released awhile back but his brother is still there ...he's maintained he wasnt a terrorist and was tortured for his troubles

btw if they're all terrorists why did they release some of them? they were never charged with anything ..so why would they release a "terrorist" back into society?

Yes, they've held a number of innocent Brits, despite us being the U.S' closest ally. They gave some of them back, but they held a lot of them after there was no doubt they were innocent. They've all reported horrific conditions.

They also demanded the Krazy Kleric, Abu Hamza al-Masri (aka. Captain Hook) from us, despite him being captured here and being a citizen (immigrant, however) of this nation, despite his crimes msotly being commited here.

Yeah, but I was thinking about going to the us or uk for a year or so to study, now I say SCREW the us! I'm going to the UK.

I also hear that Britan France, the US, and Canada are due to pay billions of Euro's in reparations for holding thousands of Germans and Japanense without trial during WWII.

At first I thought this was crazy but you guys have convinced me that during war you should either kill em or pat em on the but and return them to combat.

and so they should ...btw did you know that women and children were also in those camps? ...in fact one of canada's most famous scientists ..David Suzuki grew up in one ..for shame ...there ..at least I admit the wrong doings of my country

we are never going to do that, we rebuilt europe for godsakes, u dont see germany paying back reperations at the end of WWII

shhhhhh we have no concentration camps here in the US!!!!
(we hide ours in Cuba)

Yikes. Holding people indefinately because they can find no evidence? That's rediculous.

There should be something done about this, perhaps set some sort of legal holding time limit giving adequate time to find evidence, but nothing as crazy as multiple year to life imprisonment. That's just wrong.
