I'm tired of seeing all the swear words people type out while playing counter strike. Do you think it would be good for Valve to implement a filter so people don't have to see that??

isnt there a filter in 1.6? there is on every other game i wouldnt be surprised if they implemented it into hl2 / cs:s. cs:s beta desperatly needs a MUTE command :/

There's a mute option in the beta, sometimes it doesn't work however.

Some 1.6 servers I have played on had swear filters. So the option is there if the server owner doesn't want to see swearing.

I would like an option to disable all chat messages... hud_saytext 0 is a good temporary solution but it also disables radio commands, which i use to see if a teammate or an enemy just threw the grenade at me.

:thumbs: tru dat if you hit esc during gameplay in the beta it will bring you to the options screen, hit players and it will show all the names of the players, just highlight the players name and hit mute underneath it, wierd place to put it but it works 100percent. The swearing is annoying. Hell I didnt even know what a fagg was until I started playing the beta. LOL j/k

Well I personally know a few people that play the game with their kids playing in the same room. So imagine a little 3 year old is playing with his toys on the ground when all of the sudden in the backround, while his dad or mom is play cs, some idiot comes over the mic and starts swearing up a storm. Thats where some people might have a problem with it. I know the topic is over chatting but when there are little kids playing this game mature or not and the violence isnt real its animated and all the sudden some jackass starts typing non-stop profanity, it just sets a bad example, but at the same time most of the people that are typing all that crap are young and immature themselfs. Just ignore it. Dont reply to them because thats what keeps them going. Just ignore them. There should be the same function for typing implemented for muting a player. You should be able to mute a player and at the same time hide thier typing. That shouldnt be too hard right?

I personally turn mics off. But really, what if the three year old looked at the screen and say you KILLING PEOPLE. Regardless, every since voice support was added you could hit scoreboard and click on someones name to mute them. I havn't tested this in source because I turn mics off, though I would assume if it doesn't have it now it would have it at retail.

Absolutely! Infact it's probably the number 1 reason I stopped playing Counter-Strike. Half the time I just go into my options and disable voice chat just because all you hear when you play CS anymore is young teenagers call eachother "noobs" and swearing until they're blue in the face.

If there's anything I can't stand more than swearing it's disrespect. Disrespect for others, disrespect for women, disrespect for Valve... The list goes on, it's all you're exposed to when you play CS.

It's this kind of thing that keeps me posting on these forums (everyone is very nice, and there's rarely a swear word) as opposed to the hl2world dot com forums. Every other post is a rant or rave or flame or a troll... It's insane.

That right there is why I can't stand Counter-Strike anymore. The community is the single-most disrespectful community of any online game I've ever played.

i dont see it so much as 'disrespect' its more like, i want to play counterstrike, not surf for porn, why is it all over the damn walls??

and i cant understand the thinking behind it... for one, it clearly advertises that you're some sex-obsessed kiddie, with no idea about reality.. and secondly, i cant see how that would make you 'cooler' or anything, its a major sign of immaturity and generally poor character, to be spraying porn around in a computer game, trust me.. it makes you look like an ass.. sure some other person might find it funny, but they're just as bad as you.. and on top of that, it completely ruins the game.. i'm supposed to be in some place shooting terrorists/ct's and there are images everywhere (that kinda includes non-porn sprays, but i have a better tolerance for those)

Frankly if your friends play counterstrike when they have 3 year olds in the room I suggest you quit worrying about the impact of internet swearing on their fragile little minds and instead contact social services. I'm quite sure there are people out there happy to adopt the little blighters and lavish attention upon them (0 - 5 being the formative years of a child development) rather than waste time shooting moving pixels when they are awake. If you've got kids, there is a time and a place for playing computer games, the time is called after kids bedtime and the place is called, another room. :dozey:

i am about the only teenager i know that has has any respect for woman. i dont mind clan sprays or just funny ones, but i hate the 20% of people that i have played with that have the tub girl spray... i HATE it. i generaly just leav the server, i wish i knew some good ones to play at .

also i hate profanity. its usless and always used against other people and they "think" that they are cool for using it. but all it dose is show that they cant think of anything else to say...

also the M rating has NOTHING to do with how people act online. if you read games that have MP it says "game experance may change during online play" that means that people might be retarded online...

It's also annoying when people keep going "DIE FOR ALLAH! LALALALLALALAAL!" I don't get pissed, but since I am Muslim it just erks me... :hmph:

Also, I usually just disconnect and find a server with semi-intelligent people (or a server where everyone speaks in a foreign language...). Works most of the time.

Your opinion has been noted. I was just giving an example of a situation when someone swearing on the mic might be innapropriate. Not everone raises their kids like YOU. First I said I have friends that play cs with thier kids in the backround, I didnt mention thier age, I gave an example of a 3 year old kid playing while in the backround someone came on cs and started swearing on the mic. i cant stand ppl with mics on public servers. as someone said before all u hear is jibberish in the tone of a 12 - 14 yr old whose balls havnt dropped yet. sadly i keep my recive volume to 0% permanatly because of this. then u get the ppl that think itd be cool to play distorted music over their mic, another thing that gets to me. luckily most of the servers i play on ppl arnt that bad when it comes to abuse , unless u provoke them somehow.

i agree that porn sprays are a bit unappropriate for cs since it kinda makes the whole cs feel a bit immiture. they dont bother me that much tho, i usually just ignore them. as for whoever said they should remove text chat and have mic only, kindly stfu because that would be rediculus. not every 1 stops in the middle of a fire fight to type something.

full version of hl2 and cs:s should include a profanity filter, for those who care to use it. (myself not included)

unfortunatly, i can see no way around ppl swearing on their mic.
