Alright. For reasons of 'refreshing' each time I click a link, I have started to use mozilla's firefox instead of IE explorer. It works great, but I must say it sucks for HL2.net.

Whenever I load any forum page or topic on these forums, it 'freezes for about 3 seconds, saying something along the lines of it waiting for something from vibrant media. Then its 'transferring data from vibrant media. I know this is the stupid ad thing used in the forums, and its somehow causing a significant delay before each thead will let you scroll down or do anything else on it. Quite frusterating. Anyone else having these issues?

No Hl2.net just hates you.

... im kidding this was only in reply to your "everyone hates me" post in the other thread.

/me dodges a warning.

EDIT: By the way, no other forums do this for me, just HL2.net

yeah, me too, but it still loads faster than IE for me, so I dont complain.

If I switch to IE and load the forums, they are lightning fast for me. Firefox isn't. Not for these forums. I think its the vibrantmedia thing. Not to mention, it constantly says at the bottom left, unlike other pages, "Transferring data from www.vibrantmedia.com giving me an indicator that it keeps sending or recieving information from the place even after the page is loaded? Doesnt say that for other pages. It just says 'done'.

It freezes for me too...not just on hl2.net :/ Its really anoying..

*falls on purpose hoping tred will fall on top of him and make hot sechs*

I get the exact same thing. But mine only freezes for about a second.

The freeze is the vibrantmedia adword script running

I think we all know what this means. Off with its head!

Ads fuel war.

People don't kill people, ads kill people!

An Ad by any other name would smell just as rancid.

I think you get my drift.

Ya, I got the same thing with FF. It's really annoying. You can use adblock to fix it though. Without adblock I find the site almost unviewable.

WTF... so that's what that damn freeze is. Mine's about 2 seconds, pretty annoying. Actually I think it's happened on other pages, too. Pretty sure it didn't do this a couple days ago...

Ahhhh, peace is restored to the universe :D

CHEERS!

Console, xbox, Halo, Half-Life

Ha! I made your page load slowly.

I do it because I was hit by my parents as a child ;(

EDIT: why can't one make ads work when he wants to, but only when he doesn't want it?

But still, you're all fat! And your mother smoked during your pregnancy!

To ban the script, and get it to not slow down do the folowing:

Download adblock extention for firefox

add *Vibrantmedia* to the filter with the *

No more slowdowns!

LOL

Thanks for the info Maxikana. :cat: We have speed again :p

Yeah, I did what MaxiKana did when the text ads first showed up.
I haven't seen one since... I actually thought they were gone :p

I downloaded that adblocker, but set some block settings wrong, and I didn't know how to reset them so I tried to uninstall adblock via it's own preference menu, there you have an option to deinstall it. But for some reson it couldn't, it said something that it wasn't able t ouninstall alll components and I had to do it manually. But now I can't resinstall it at or any other extension, and if I go to tools and click on the extensions nothing happens I see the sands glasa thing on my mouse arrow but when I move the mouse it dissapears and the estensions won't open, I tried to deinstall firefox and reinstall it, but I can't uninstall it fully it somejow leaves a trace cause even if I select to uninstall it all when I reinstall I still have all my booksmarks, So can anyone tell me how to fix this or how to remove firefox fully.

The delay is about 0.5secs for me. Then again, firefox was designed by a 17 year old.

Other than in Program Files, Firefox keeps a file of your preferences (bookmarks, and quite possibly extentions) in this folder (for WinXP) -

C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Mozilla\Something

Actually, I couldn't find mine, so that's mostly a guess but I think it's right. If you find it, backup your favourites before you delete it. They're kept in an .htm file called bookmarks or something.

Huh? Asterixes? I don't get it.

The asterixes simulate anything. So if I type Bedn* in windows search, it will search for files with Bedn and anything else after it, but only if it has Bedn before it. Like this Bedn*=BednSux but Bedn*!=SuxBedn.

Oh and != means not equal to. Programming thing.

Not asterixes! STARS! STARS MAN STARS!!!!11

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

There was another guide for Firefox that helps vastly increase speed. I just do not remember the website. If someone knows what site I am talking about, don't hesitate to post it. ;)

I'm so glad adblock solved the problem :)

Now the forums are usable

Okey for anyone that is interseted, Firefox stores it's things in

How do you do that exactly, I click on tools, then adblock, then preferences, adblock options and I don´t see anywhere vibrant media. What do I have to click and in what order, in order to go and to select vibrantmedia and add it to the filter

You have to type in the url where it says "New filter" in preferences.
