I am surprised Stern hasn't made a thread on this movie in this section or in the politics section since this movie has such politically charged themes in it.
i saw the trailer a few weeks ago so um for those who haven't seen it, u can view it here. i will be seeing it... what about u guys?

discuss.

edit: hmm...for some reason the trailer is not loading for me...am i the only one with this problem? i'll look for other links in the meantime.

I saw the trailer a while ago and just got hooked. It looks to be a bit more realistic on the issues, and I hope it doesn;t stray from that. Also, it's full of great actors which looks promising. I just hope it isn;t a diatribe against the government, which it doesn;t look to be. Looks more like it focuses on the oil companies, which play a big hand in the economy and politics.

I can't wait for the Syriana.

Kinda has a "Constant Gardener" vibe although this one could be even better.

just saw the trailer the other day, looks like it's my kind of movie ..if handled right (as long as they dont downplay US manipulation of the oil industry) this could spark controversy but also open people's eyes who wouldnt normally follow this sort of underhanded dealing that the movie shows

its release week for this flick.
will be availabe in theatres starting Friday and im probaby gonna check it out.

Tomorrow?! Oh snap, I better get my mama to take me ^__^.

I'll probably have to wait till it's released on dvd ..baby sitters are hard to come by

damn :(
i just went to check the listings for this movie and noticed very few theatres in the Toronto area are playing it so then i go to movies.com and it says release date: November 23 and im still confused.
then loaded the movie's website and noticed the November 23 date is for select cities and the nation wide date is December 9. :|

sheesh i hate that :frown:

watched this movie tonight :)
let me just say that for anyone expecting action scenes should not bother to waste money on this movie...its more geared towards drama and to pique the general public's interest in how politics/power influence the world we live in.

Stern, whatever u do man, this flick i believe was made for u :P
go check it out if ur into the politics/power/corruption that we don't neccessarily see in our every day lives.

Was a good movie. I had hoped for some cool action scenes with clooney though.

my warning about there being no action in this movie was mainly just that.
maybe after watching the trailer for this movie, people expect Clooney's character to bust out the para go rambo randomly and have Mat Damon's char as his trusty side-kick... nuh-uh.

not happening...this movie is for people who want to see/hear about complex and challenging issues which affect everyone around the world.

heh clooney put on 30 pounds for Syriana dont think he could keep up with Damon ;)

incidentily you should watch Clooney in Confessions of a Dangerous mind ..in it he plays a CIA agent who contracts Chuck Barris (of the Gong Show) as a paid CIA hitman ..great movie

I've been meaning to see that, I'll try to check it out.

Trailers looked awesome...movie had awesome intentions...and miserably FAILED at execution. The last 30minutes when all the seemingly pointless and random mini-plots came together. The movie as my friend said was paced like an old lady walking to the grocery store thats 48 blocks away! Some scenes were pointless, sometimes it tried to be too smart for its own good. And dont give me the "you didnt understand bullshit" I understood the movie quite well thank you. The end felt like nothing at all was accomplished.

I was pissed because since I didnt like the movie I just wanted to see the predictable massive explosion of the oil line and was only dissapointed/teased with a big white screen of nothingness...if the movie were good I would said that its good they didnt show it as it would have ruined what the movie was trying to accomplish.

I also believe that the movie really took too much advantage of this whole modern oil political fiasco...the director/producer/writer knew it would hit home with us so they could do whatever they want as long as it was complicated and involved the government doing crazy shit to get oil.

As a book it could have been much better, it was a great plot and had some great dialogue...the execution and pacing/editing of this stuff was horrendous....and as a movie (which this was) I give it a 1/10...if it were a book or just a script...probably a 7-8/10 (which is good).

...Your score makes no sense. Why do you need to see a massive explosion? Its not what the entire movie's about. The scene where Matt Damon is walking away from the car explosion did everything for me. Everything he believed in was gone. Very emotional. Its a political thriller, not an action film. Of course its slow paced. There's a lot of information to take in. If you felt nothing was accomplished then you obviously "didn't understand." It's not a difficult movie to understand nor does it try to be overly complex or "smart."

#1- Your an asshole for not putting any spoiler tags around what you said.
#2- Your an asshole for not reading my post
#3- Your an asshole for not being able to respect another persons opinion (saying your score does not make any sense is not respecting their opinion)
#4- Stern it's not too big of a spoiler so don't fret...if you are waiting for it to come out on DVD you will hopefully forget it by then.

I don't even need to defend myself machina, if you read my post you wouldn't have said what you said.

What the hell are you talking about not reading what you posted and respecting your opinion? Saying your score makes no sense isn't disrespect moron. See, me calling you a moron is not respectable. Second, don't worry, the spoiler isn't too big Stern so no worries.
I was simply telling you my opinion. I did read your post and that's why I said what I said. Asshole.

hahaha...I want to see you say "bla bla makes no sense" to your teachers, boss, or parent when criticizing them and lets see how well they take it shall we? Hahaha what a joke!

Plus you didn't read my post so don't even try to get out of this. I don't have to defend anything at all...in fact I think you would almost understand (I know its tough for you to "get" things) why I said what I said. I will give you a hint...read my spoiler...I didn't think anyone would have to but...read it closely I guess and I pray there's an inch of sane left in you.

Wow, talk about being arrogant. Listen, I don't care if you suffer from a superority complex. I read your post which Did not make any sense. Ok? I bolded it out for you to understand because obviously you're not reading any of MY posts. If you're going to keep on with the personal attacks, then go somewhere else. You're making a big deal out of me disagreeing with your opinion for no reason whatsoever. So get over yourself and move on. This is the internet, not a college debate. I don't know about you, but I'm not trying to win any awards here. Good day sir.
