system req problem

i have a acer laptop running windows vista home premium (i know shitty but i bought it like that)

amd turion 64 x2 mobile 1.6ghz
2gb of ram
ati radeon express 1100 256 mb card
160gb hdd

well here is the problem, i run hl2 and my recomends are all high with high res, but everything is laggy fps is slow and shit, so i put everything on low with res low and end all my programs that are running in the background (aim bittorrent shit like that) and it still runs shity

Those specs sound okay. Your video driver might not be up to date, or your hardware could be damaged.

That, and having Vista.

i just bought the laptop 2 days ago and i updated the video driver so i have no clue why it is crappy

Vista is why it's crappy. Also, just because you bought it 2 days ago, doesn't mean it's up-to-date. And there are more drivers etc to update than just video ones - on any system.

You also might want to consider defragmenting the hard drive and defragmenting HL2's game cache via Steam.
