Is it possible to even get this anymore? I heard it was now abandonware and is a free download but I have yet to find anywhere that I can download it for free or without raping my e-mail with spams.

PM sent, anyone else who wants it, just post here, or PM me and I'll PM you the link.

P.S. You need DOSBOX to run it.

Im interested. Thanks in advance also.

Home Of The Underdogs have the full-CD version, I got it from'em last year, it's a nice game, though by modern standards the interface and keyboard configuration is awful.:p

I got the first one and it won't work on my system...is the second one just as good and where can I get it?

I remember my Graphic Communications teacher in highschool gave this away on 2 floppy discs during class. He must've found it and had no use for it.

System Shock 1 is the best game ever.

There's not even any contest.

The second one is a million times better, to get the story just read about it on google or something, it's not hard to understand.

I just got it and finally got it working on 2 machines in my house. Time to co-op that sh*t up!

Yeah! I do that for almost all my old games that aren't well-compatible with WinXP, like MechWarrior 2 Titanium pack.

I just hope either VM or MSVirtualPC(Which is what I use) get proper glide emulation support in the future..:(

System Shock is awesome, but takes time to get used to (you use the SXAD combination to move, not WSAD and mouse is used only to manipulate the screen). Still, it's fantastic, especially the CD version, which has voiced log files.

Unless you change to the WSAD like I did.

I don't agree. The second was less innovative for its time and had less challenge and depth. To each his own though.

Yeah SS1 was harder than 2 but they both had crappy boss fights.

SS1: Mines/Explosives - Trigger boss, boom!
SS2: Heavy weapons 4 + EMP weapon - Bye bye Shodan!

Limited replayability doesn't really downgrade the boss fights, imo. You could choose not to do that and still have fun.

Yeah, and if you brought a few ICE Picks the entire match lasts about 5 seconds. Neither game has really "good" boss fights, and I think that had to do with neither really being the type of game for it. The Shock 2 BOTM fight gets pretty intense on the higher difficulties, but the endgame one is so crappy (mostly due to budget and time constraints.)

Difficulty was one thing I did really like about Shock 1. You could individually set the Plot, Enemies, Cyberspace, and Puzzles to one of four difficulties. I always put everything on 3 except Plot, since it makes the game timed.

I found Shock 1 a lot more intriguing too. It was easier to care about the characters and follow them, and the relationship you had with the antagonists was absolutely amazing.
