Irrational Games, creators of critically acclaimed games such as System Shock 2, Freedom Force, Tribes:Vengeance, SWAT 4 and now Bioshock

Been quiet around this project now for a long time. I really hope Irrational is working hard in the development of this HIGHLY interesting game. However its been over 6 months since the last acknowledgment that this is even in production, I get a bit worried that its been canceled. Just a "Hey we're still here and working on bioshock" is all I ask.

I always wait patiently for games, no point in having a rushed piece of crap just to get it out 2 months earlier, but hearing at least some news from them is nice just to know that everything is going to plan.

Gamespot Review

They've been pretty wierd about the whole "shock" thing. They say it's not a part of the System Shock universe, but then say it's kind of a sequel, then put "shock" in the name, and then remind us that it's not a true sequel, and...

Bah. I'd take a proper sequel over Bioshock any day.

Except EA own the rights to the System Shock franchise...

Irrational Games created a work of art. I just cant find another game equal to or better that SS2. BioShock would hit it on the nose, its only worth dreaming about now. Gamespot still say "2006" but who's to say what when no-ones heard anything from Irrational in months!

Ill be waiting on some more info. All this is very old. Looks like a very interesting game tho.

BioShock is apparantly System Shock 2's gameplay expanded upon with a different story line.

they tip-toeing around ideas of sequel so they won't be sued.

Release date Dec 2006, no wonder we haven't heard anything.

I think they released info too early.

I'm definitely looking forward for this game, it sounds very interesting!

PC Gamer also had a preview on it a while ago, and it sounded very interesting and very intelligent for a "new game". Hopefully they'll release more media soon.

There hasnt been any news on this game in over a year unforunetly.

Is anyone else already resigned to the fact that this is probably going to be a console-first game with a crappy port (a la Thief 3, er sorry, Dark Shadows. or Deus Ex 2...oops, I mean Invisible War)?

Its PC exclusive. And its being designed by the people who made the System Shock games.

lets hope their up to the task

kinda a coincidence that I'm just about to finish ss2 right now :p

That's wrong. Do you have any evidence to support that?

True, Irrational Games haven't found a publisher as far as i know. My guess: Sierra or EA

And you only hit the N key once. :O

:cheese:

I gave up on SS2 on my machine, so many problems. I know someone posted a useful link for troubleshooting on newer systems, but I got fed up and threw it aside.

I got SS2 to run fine on my Windows XP without having to do a thing. The version I got was from the-underdogs.org.

Did you bother looking yourself?
Gamespot hasnt had any news on it since October 2004.
The Semi-Offical Bioshock Website has only had an "Intern Openings" and a "we'll not be at E3 2005" news posts this year.
And every other gaming site dosent have anything on it this year.

So yes, there is evidence, and I'm not wrong.
-.-

you know i saw these images months ago somewhere - possibly even on this site :O

During the gamespot interview Ken actually hinted at being pretty far on. (relatively, they had already worked on the game for 2 years and thought they were about halfway through)

And....

6 months ago, Bill from irrational told me the game's still at least a year away from [alpha].

So next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in stores Christmas 2006

AND!....

"They have programming internships on offer for Bioshock! If you're interested"

So yes i did read it.

What a reliable source.

That says nothing about development progress.

You got it out for me ain't you?

No, but let's be realistic. I'm not denying that the game is being worked on, but what kind of correspondence do you think you're going to get? Do you think he'd ever say "No, we're not working on it. We're sitting on our asses doing nothing eating cheetos and drinking Dew"?

They wouldn't employ people to progress on nothing.

While that's true, that still doesn't change the fact that there has been almost no information regarding the game itself in quite some time. No screenshots, no features, no media releases, nothing. That image put up in the first post isn't even a screenshot IIRC, but a representation of what they want to try and make.

A strong foundation in the principles of 3D computer graphics; with DirectX 9 and HLSL
Experience working with the Unreal Engine is a strong plus.

I gess they want to switch to other engine(UE3 ?), becose i cant see UT (dx8.1) engine to be good in end of next year...
Just my 2 £
