And god damn...it's gone up into my top three games of all time, along with Metroid Prime(s) and Secret of Mana.
With a play time (for me at least) of 65 hours including a lot of extra exploration and secret stuff after returning to the world map after getting up to the last battle - it's one of the most immersive and definately the most powerful (emotionally) RPGs of all time. With incredibly detailed characters (as deep into their backgrounds and emotions as only Final Fantasy 6 could until now claim to), fantasic gameplay (a battle system akin to Star Ocean - but with only two directions of movement and a jump ability) and one of the most epic stories in videogame history that spans more than just the entire world of Sylvarant, but into the lives, emotions and beliefs of everybody in that world and beyond. And Kratos Aurion is the coolest damned video game character ever - voiced by none other than Campbell Clark (Liquid Snake). With top-notch voice acting, incredible graphics that enhance the atmosphere of the game, wonderfully detailed characters you learn to love or despise and a generous helping of humour, Tales of Symphonia is one of the most impressive and inspiring experiences I've ever had. And I'm playing it through again already, with a time now clocked at a total 74 hours. I highly recommend it to any fan of RPGs. The two biggest names in Japanese animation - Production I.G. and GAINAX also worked quite a bit on this title, so it is one definately not to be missed.
