Tarantino Presents: Half-Life! The Movie!

terry gilliam from Monty Python did 12 monkeys ..watch Brazil ...his best film IMHO

tarantino would be a bad choice IMHO ..he's all about character development and is better suited to film noir type gritty films rather than sci-fi movies
Making an HL movie would be a bad choic IMHO... It would demean everything the game stands for as a testament to the possibilities of games as a valid method of story-telling in a way not truly possible with films or books.

Oh, and speaking of Tarantino "presents" - they had that on the ads for Hero. He had absolutely nothing to do with the film whatsoever except for his name and wordless endorsement on the poster. Nice one, Quentin.

I dont think you could really direct a half-life film. Its just.....too cool to be pulled out of 1st person view.

It could be shot in first person, that would at least resolve the necessity to find an actor for Gordon and would rock pretty hard, at least i think so

No ... not at all. He just used the title from a relatively obscure foreign film. Similar to how all of his other movies have a lot of blatant references to other movies. The plot is much more similar to the Dirty Dozen than the old Inglorious Bastards (which was just it's release name in the US).
Yeah, I think its a remake of the dirty dozen.

I don't think Half-Life would make a good movie...

have you watched Jackie brown? that was all character development ..and there's nothing wrong with sex drugs and rock and roll ...in moderation of course :)

Lol, since when has Tarantino ever done a movie in moderation?

Gordon would go from being a mute to running round naked with a sawn off shotgun shouting motha-f***a at everyone before snorting cocaine and having to be saved by Barney who drags his naked half dead body out of the way and down an alley before reviving him with gay sex, doing a 70's style disco dance and then both dying when they charge, guns blazing, into a tank and slowly getting squashed by the treads in all the horrific gruesome glory of dying.

Do you really want that from a Halflife movie, do you? No, i thought not. The best guy to direct the movie would be Spielberg, as long as he doesn't pull any of that War Of The Worlds ending shit.

we all agree that george romero and james cameron team directing would be perfect right?

It would be difficult to incorporate everything into a 2 hour movie. If Tarantino does end up directing, I wonder if he'll do something like Kill Bill and turn it into 2 parts?

I've felt that Half-Life would probably work better on TV as a miniseries. There would be enough time to include all the levels/events into the series and at the same time really give us a chance to see the characters develop in a survival setting.

I'd like to see a first person HL movie. yet im not gonna get my hopes up because yeah they'll prolly screw it up if they tried it unfortunately but i'd have to say that i'd like James Cameron, Ridley Scott or Stephen Spielberg (or all 3 ^.^) to direct it but i'd kill them (literally) if they diverged from the storyline

i hope to never see a fpv movie made after a video game ...too gimmicky and not at all suited to film

the doom sequences with fpv are just stupid (IMHO) ...it's as if they cheapen the game by saying "gamers will recognize this gimmick, lets use it to draw as many gamers as possible" ...instead of recreating the game experience (impossible in a film) they should concentrate on adapting a game to suit film ...not the other way round

CptStern said:
ummm I'm not too sure about that ...I think Ridley scott would be a good choice ...as long as he kept faithful to the source material ..and modeled it after his best film: Blade Runner ..his style suits HL better than either rodrigues or tarantine ....again just my HO

Ridley Scott yup.... love Blade Runner.

Again, not really. The plot of Kill Bill was more or less lifted from a much older martial arts film (the name escapes me right now). However, Kill Bill would certainly not be considered a remake. There will be a lot of similarities to the Dirty Dozen, but in no way is it a remake.

Oh baby, Halflife2 in the Blade Runner style....WOW:rolling:

Without fail, every game that was made into a movie has sucked. Are you guys that eager to see the monstrosity of a half life movie?

Originality is dead, long live the spin-off.

Its not like anyone is going to un-install their Half-Life 2 games just because the film was terrible. (Well, actually, from some reactions I've seen here...) Ahem, anyway.

I say let <insert director that everyone is creaming over because of latest film here> do a HL film. It'll be a intresting watch.

I think an HL movie could work - you'd just have to have it different from the game. I mean, it's quite a good idea for a movie in a general sense: ordinary people, all scientists and intellectuals and definetely NOT soldiers, have to fight their way out of a disaster-struck facility.

If you've ever seen Rules of Engagement, there's a scene where you're in the eyes of one of the militia fighters, firing down on the Marines from a building up high. It was pretty kickass, but of course, used in moderation.

Let Oliver Stone do it... he would put a good crackpot spin on it ;)

if it ends up being made into a movie, it'll probably be done by a director like Jerry Bruckheimer.. nice and dramatic, good action, but nothing amazing in the plot dept.

What if Peter Jackson did it? He might get the "epic" style of the HL series.

Or poor zombie movie like Braindead...

I want Ridley Scott (without Orlando Bloom) or John Woo (Paycheck) or Rob Bowman (X-files Fight the Future - movie).

I think almost any of those directors would do a good job, but if Bruce Campbell played Barney, I would cry tears of joy and would see the movie no matter what.

I don't believe Jerry Bruckheimer has ever directed anything. He's a producer, usually associated with Michael Bay crapfests and reality TV.

Peter Jackson doesn't seem like a good fit to me, although I am a little biased. I think he's probably the most overrated director in recent history.

M. Night should do it. But the script would have to be written by someone else.

My bad

He is possibly quite overrated, yes, I did realise that, but who knows? :P at least it would "up" the publicity :D

Apparently, they've gone to loads of people about a movie (Spielberg, Jackson, possibly Cameron?) and everyone wanted to put a love story in it. :x

This from a friend and I don't know where the hell he got it from. :p

What about Steven Speilberg? Take War of the Worlds for example. You basically have Half-Life if you replace the tripods with striders and the aliens with the combine. <_< >_>

That would be kinda cool. I've just been watching the third Army Of Darkness movie.......he was good in that......

Michael Bay ftw! :O

I hate Michael Bay! Pearl Harbor was one of the worst films I've seen and The Island looks like the most ridiculous piece of crap out right now (well, maybe tied with Stealth...no, The Island is worse).

that guy from Office Space does look a little like Barney. haha

You haven't seen Stealth yet, have you? Word of advice: don't. >.<

It can't be any worse than the Fantastic Four...can it?

this guy... no, wait.. that guy.... maybe this guy.... just shut up :D

Half-life would be good for a long tv show

It's just a matter of time till Valve sells out the games rights to some hack like Uwe Boll or Paul W.'Assshat' Anderson and turn it into another 90 min crapfest.
Hopefully they'll wait till somebody new with some actual talent emerges.
Somebody that has an understanding and respect for games such as this.Somebody that has the balls to try out something new and risky and turn it into a nice piece of entertaining artwork.
If it was for me,i'd stick to the games roots and do the entire movie from only one perspective. It wouldn't work, you say?Well,it definitely wouldn't appeal to the majority of movie goers.Who gives a **** though?
All great 'cult' classics never did.Look at the movies now and the praise the creators get from our generation of ppl.The upcoming "Doom" movie will have a small sequence enitrely shoot in the first person perspective but i doubt that they got it right. It'll be nothing more than poorly executed 'wink' at the games fans.(Yes,i can see into the future)

Anyway, these days it's all about the moolah and what appeals to the general public out there.Everybody has to ****ing like it.
Bash Tarantino all you want but he,his friend Robert Rodriguez and the Weinstein Brothers are good example of risk taking movie makers out there.

Small bugets+Artzy Fartzy Directors with a Cult following=Cha Ching Ching!
;)

I don´t think so...

its rather a question of whether there will be any ovie at all.

no not him :(
and not a half life movie, that would destroy the games :(

Even if Tarantino isn't the best choice to direct HL I would still love to see his adaptation of it. As a fan I'm pretty sure he'd stay home to the source material but oh man, imagine how he could portray the combine. God that'd be sadistic.
