They have announced that the demo is set for release "before 11:59pm GMT on 9th of September 2005"

The demo is 100% free, depending on how the demo does, plans for a comercial release may be made.

So by that token, it makes sense for the public to not get your demo, because then it would be deemed unsuccessful and therefore not worthy of a commercial release, leading to a free mod.

We should send a notice throughout the internet, have a couple hundred people download it, give away an AIM screen name, then send it through people on AIM. This way, the creators will know that everyone will have actually downloaded the demo and played it!

looking forward to playing it,,

and yes I will actually download it from one of your servers :D...

seems really stupid to try and make a mod you like unsucessful so it won't go commercial. Maybe the developers will assume they failed and won't release anything at all after the demo..

Somebody torrent it 2 seconds after it's released - wait, they can count players via steam though, right?

Oddly enough, I was joking.

sorry, very huing over and it's affecting my sarcasm detection abilities :D

Yes, they can... Which is how they will judge the success of the mod. So download it however you want, that won't matter... Considering this is one of the first TC's, there will be a lot of downloads.

Plus, judging the success of ANY game by downloads is dumb :p It's all about how many players are playing the game at any given time (if you can reach 5,000 players on average, give yourself a pat on the back!!)

Good luck Dys guys! :D Hope the release goes smoothly for you all!

So when are you guys releasing your first build, Eagel?
;)

Well from the shots, it looks as if the internal build of his mod is excellant

In an attempt to clear up what seems to be a wide spread misunderstanding:

We will only ever charge for the full release of Dystopia if we're able to organise with Valve for it to be a full stand alone game. We will never charge for Dystopia while it's a HL2 addon.

Team Dystopia is very eager to see the public reaction to the demo release. We love it and hope that many others do too.

I'm sure we will love it... all of it, and since it's a demo... will it be 1 level, 2 levels? how many levels? and will it feature all of the features that will be in the final version?

you never cease to make me laugh, which is wierd because i'm fairly new here... <_<
It's okay, I'm an old fart as far as my time spent on this site goes (though I'm sixteen :D) but Pi still makes me laugh too.

I'll give the demo a download, but I won't buy the game if they release it commercially... or I will, but I won't be happy about it.

I think all mods should be free. Unless they get extremely popular like DOD and CSS.

This is exactly what Team Dystopia think. It's also exactly what I posted in the thread on our forum which seems to have kicked off this entire uproar about paying for Dystopia.

How much clearer can we be:

We have no intention of charging for Dystopia unless it's a stand alone product.

Obviously the opportunity to take Dystopia from being a free mod into a stand alone product is only ever going to come along if it becomes extremely popular.
