The second major update to the recent class pack additional content has been released. Some interesting changes in this one...
  • The Ambassador now does full critical hits on headshots, instead of mini crits
  • The Dead Ringer now fully drains the cloak meter, even if the Spy leaves cloak early
  • Fixed Spy disguise menu not being visible in HUD minimal mode
  • Server log improvements: Added "player_extinguish" event for servers to log when a Pyro extinguishes flame with the airburst
  • Fixed kill descriptions for Force-A-Nature & Sandman, so server logs can distinguish them
  • Identified feign deaths in the events sent to server logs
  • Fixed server crash related to the Jarate
The update should be applied automatically. Let us know, is the ambassador a better alternative now?

You mane an equal alternative?

Unlocks aren't suppose to be better!

Hence why no one uses the bonesaw or original syringe gun anymore. :(

That's a drag about the Dead Ringer - I'll still use it, but it's definitely not as useful. I guess that's a fair trade, since it otherwise equals an 'extra life'. Also, I didn't know the airburst from the Pyro's compression blast would put flames out? Does that work on all players, or just team mates? For example, if you set someone on fire and go to blast them off a ledge, will it extinguish them too? I just got the Ambassador a couple of days ago - I'll try it tonight.

Well, this certainly spells good news for the Ambassador.

There's already people on the steam forums complaining the ambassador is overpowered again.

Expect to see a lot of Dead Ringer/Ambassador Spies. Seems the two go together well to create a Deathmatch-focused Spy. Tried it on an arena map and it worked. I don't think its overpowered, but I did aggravate some snipers with a couple of lucky head shots. Seeing as it was one shot out of seven, I don't think its enough to make an unskilled played dominate or a veteran player unstoppable.

They didn't implement the damn trading system yet? Seriously?

Yeah, I'm really holding out till the trading system is out, so I can trade the stuff i dont need for new unlocks.

Or, you know, we can scrap this stupid system already.

Nice, but I would like to exchange my bloody nazi medic übersaws for that dundee hat.

I really can't wait for the trading system. I already know somebody who will trade me a Cloak and Dagger for one of my Blutsaugers. I have way too many worthless things.

this is ****ing stupid.

ambassador didn't need a buff...and the deadringer sure as hell didn't need a nerf.

Ambassador now seems to be useful. Hurray!

There's still no fix for the unlock system. What the ****?

If they had removed the sound in exchange I'd be happy. Ambassador sure as hell needed fixing, it was hopelessly broken pre-patch.

that would make way too much sense.

this system is giving free weekend newbies all the rare hats and new items that they have little to no appreciation for. that's how it should be.

I know they aren't supposed to be better, but I said a better alternative in comparison to the ambassador pre-update which only did mini-crits, and hence wasn't particularly useful

It isn't broken? This new system is intentional ya know. I've got all the unlocks now after a few days play, it's completely fine. In fact I have 2 huntsman, 3 dead ringers, 2 cloak and daggers, 4 razorbacks...if anything it works too well if you play plenty of TF2.

Stop trying to defend this flawed system, by this statement alone you are saying "I like the system, because I got lucky".
There are plenty of people who play plenty of TF2 and have gotten almost nothing, the system is completely random, so your defense for it being an overall good system for everyone can't be "Well I happened to get all the stuff so therefor it must be working well"

The large majority were not this fortunate, and therefor not pleased.
If you notice, the only people who ever like this system are of course, people who don't care about the unlocks, people who got lucky and quickly got all the unlocks, or people sucking Vavle's tit.

I got all the sniper unlocks and the Cloak and Dagger, and I still think this system is shit.

There are many others who play TF2 a lot and they still don't have jack, or just a bunch of dupes for stuff they already had. That there is such a large discrepancy between the loot you've acquired versus others' with similar playtime is surely a sign it's broken.

Also, what nuri said.

I've played TF2 a lot, I haven't just got the new stuff. I have 80% of the old toot before I got any of that stuff. I have 4 sandmans, 3 nataschas, 3 kritzkreigs. (I've mentioned them all in the other thread). The system will give you every thing in time. You are rewarded for playing more TF2. I'm in the same boat as everyone else...

But this is clearly not the case across the board thanks to the random variables in the drops. I already have all the previous unlocks. What's the use in picking up four more Sandmans or three Kritzkriegs? I've played a lot of TF2 as well, so surely it makes more sense for me to be picking up the new weapons instead of all these old duplicates? Maybe it would be fair if everybody started from square one with nothing, but that's not the case. Instead it's just aggravating to many experienced players.

It's "fair" to the point of absurdity, and surely there's a better way. I may be rewarded with items for greater playtime, but that doesn't mean a whole lot when the rewards themselves are useless crap 90% of the time. I took issue with the old achievement system as well, so it's not like I'm one of those people who's pissed just because I can't unlock them all in half an hour. I just think Valve traded out the old problem with an entirely new one.

I'm in full agreement with Absinthe. The new system is useless if it gives players duplicated weapons which are completely identical. If they had implemented the random attributes to weapons people would be far less annoyed because at least they would get an old unlock with slightly different stats.

Had a weird problem on TF2 earlier where every time I died I was awarded another item. A few other people on the server had the same thing going on. All the other players thought we were using hacks, which obviously wasn't the case. Anyone else had/heard of this?

all i know is that kind of shit should be happening to more people more often.

I dont see any sense in defending a system that "rewards" anything to anyone for NO REASON, especially when it comes to the hats. Sure, you play enough and you will get everything eventually, but due to its random nature someone can log into a server for 2 hours and unlock everything, while some other poor soul is playing his ass off for 12 hours and still hasn't received anything. Great system, right?

I have not received anything I hadn't already got, and I think it's a good system in principle. The idea is sound, but how it's implemented isn't.

Somewhat like communism.

I've clocked in about 5 hours since the updates and still haven't received anything. Either it's broken or it's lame by design.

That's not very long. I'm sure it was supposed to average at about every 6 hours or something. But I have received three random items in less than 4 hours.

Some people don't seem to realise that these unlocks are supposed to be rare. You're not supposed to get them in a day. Some people might, and some people might not get anything after a day. It's called chance.

I've played for twenty hours since the update dropped and I've unlocked one thing.

5 days of straight play.
No unlocks. At all.
Yes I'm playing on VAC servers.

**** this.

I too have yet to unlock anything.

But hey, as long as it's fair! :D

I wonder what Valve is doing now, because they haven't fixed the biggest TF2 problem yet that everyone is so raged about.

I'm starting to imagine them writing another explanation of how the system is supposed to be better than achievement grinding.

Because we all know it's exactly like Valve to completely ignore player response and just do whatever they please; it offers a perfect explanation as to why they did away with the achievement system that everyone hated, after all.

Hey guess what guys, I haven't received anything from the unlock system yet but I'm not flipping my shit because it's going to get fixed. Right now we're basically undergoing widescale playtesting for the new unlock method, and it's going to be some time before they figure out what to do about it. The idea is good, but the implementation isn't quite there yet; if the majority of people are indeed playing for extended periods of time without receiving anything, then Valve will change it because it's clearly not what they intended.

Chill dudes

I think the main point where we disagree is while you think the idea itself is good, I think it sucks.

What do you dislike about it? It's the same core concept as the achievement system: rewards for people who play the game more often than those who don't.
