team fortress

Team Fortress Classic is a mod for the Half-Life engine. Still very popular. If you own Half-Life and you have Steam, you should be able to download Team Fortress Classic.

Team Fortress 2 is in development on the Source engine but we have no media, information or details about it yet.

It's a type of game, like Counter-Strike or DoD... It's mainly a capture-the-flag game (which you might have seen in games like Unreal Tournament and Tribes) but it's a little different.
Valve is supposed to make Team Fortress 2, which is why you've heard talk about it.

Check out stuff here: http://www.planethalflife.com/tfc/ for a guide on Team Fortress Classic (for hl1)

Team Fortress was created as a mod on Quake, not played it though.

Team Fortress2 has been in development for ages, but progress has slowed down a lot since for various reasons, and is now being produced as a seperate item(i believe) on the hl2 engine, source.

It's a highly entertaining multiplayer game :) Nobody pointed that out. I suggest you try it. It's really fun :)

Actually its not mainly CTF. There are some CTF maps. Then there are CTF with side elements. There is command point maps, flag control, defense/offense, RCTF, Soccer. Then you have the 3rd party which include turkeyburgers DM, king of the hill, invasion, clay shooter.. the list goes on.

Just wanted to point that out.

tfc is good but well its not entirely skill based, tactics is needed a lot of the time. Classes include : spy, pyro, soldier( rocket launcher + shotty), Medic, engineer, sniper, scout and of course the good old heavy weapon gay :p
