Hey everyone. Recently, I've taken C++ course in college, which sparked my interest into creating a playable mod for Half life 2. I have two other coderes working with me, who also have known C++ for a couple of years now, and so far we've got 50% of the basic mod set up.

I know it sounds like not a lot, and that people are always constnatlly begging for people to help them make 'their awsomeest ideasz for a mod11!!!!11" but I am prepared to show that me and my team are actually working on stuff.

Anyway, I've been a big fan of Team Fortress for a long time now, as well as Halo, and I figured i'd make a Halo Story-Multiplayer driven mod. It'd allow you to play as covenent or Humans, in strictly story-based scenarios online, which could be a lot of fun. For example, in one campaign the humans would be on another halo and they would try to defend it from a covenent team from trying to activiate it and destroying the universe.

Even if you're not a huge halo fan, I'm not asking one guy to make everything. How much ever you could contribuite I would really apperciate.. the mod is getting done coding wise regargdless of our modeling capabalities or not, so we are just trying to saver ourselves the effort of learning 3DS max as well.

By the way, we understand that there is a Halo 1 Single Player mod for Half-life 2 but our mod is different because it story based Multiplayer with core objectives.

There is already a Team Fortress mod (Fortress Forever) and one that people were making out to be a Halo rip-off a while ago...Also, as usual...legal issues!
 
I already said I know there is a fortress forever mod. Will you please read my freaking post before posting a reply? As for the other halo mod, that's a single player conversion, and I know the guy doing it. It's still under progress.

No copyright issues are in the way, as it's freeware, and bungie is not gay like fox, they don't shut down mods like fox would.

Actually, it is a copyright issue. You are using someone else's copyrighted material. Just because you're recreating it doesn't make it yours. Inspired is one thing, but a play-by-play recreation IS copyright infringement.

I wish people would get that through their thick freaking skulls already.

And don't forget that Microsoft owns Bungie.
 
Actually, i'm not selling it. It's a copyright issue, however bungie supports fanwork, which is exactly what this is. You're allowed to re-create things, and distrubiute your own recreations FREELY, as long as you give Bungie/Microsoft full credit and rights, and make full notice that it's for freeware.

a) Highlight for me "Fortress Forever" or mention of a team fortress mod being created
b) Using other copyrights is always bad
c) PR is important for a mod as you will fail without people
d) read any article on mods and one thing mentioned is not to use the words "its like xx game mixed with xx"...

You won't find people here that will help you create something that's already been created.
 
fan work is fan work

direct copy offering a free alternative that is in competition wit the original which is trying to make money IS COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

fan work isn't a direct copy. fan work is like a spoof for example, like Spaceballs is to Star Wars. They didn't just remake Star Wars with different actors.

and also, there are countless rip off mods of halo. Every now and again someone posts "it's basically halo, but better" or something similar. A team of 3 coders is an extreme waste on a project like that. so many mods require the skills of coders, even rip off scummy halo mods. you'd be much better making something, well, better.

and finally. if you want to make a halo mod that is close to the original, why not mod halo? You can't get closer than that, and you have a built in halo fanbase. it would also be much easier to modify halo, rather than remake the whole halo game, models and artowrk and all, for HL2. it's just common sense tbh.

though tbh i've just had a great idea for a mod. A Halo mod that is exactly like HL2, but multiplayer team based coop. one team is combine and one is rebels. trouble is i need people to remake everything about HL2 for me on the Halo engine.
