which is real poly counter? editable mesh or editable poly and what is the difference?

editable mesh has tries, that's the count you want.

i usually just render my scene and take the poly count of the info window that appears.

Redo the whole modell or just remove the unneeded polly´s ...

heh, yup learning to low poly model will keep you poly counts nice and low

Editable Mesh works with tri's, HL2 uses those tri's. So that's the polycount you want.
