Readers of our last Compendium news post may remember how we described an unusual $800,000 gap between stretch goals 13 and 14 ($6m - the final oldest target, and $6.8m - the first newest target, respectively). Well, Valve have today revealed a "Hidden Stretch Goal" located at $6,400,000, which will now provide all Compendium Owners with a special "Unusual Taunt" for the Techies, an upcoming hero infamous enough to have been strongly desired by the community for many years.
The unusual taunt will allow players to gloat against others with a special hero animation and some added visual effects which will play both on the in-game map and on the Death Cam of any players recently killed by the Techies and their explosives. While the Techies have yet to be added to Dota 2 from the original Defense of the Ancients, the stretch goal has revealed that the hero will be released after the conclusion of The International 2014 in late July 2014. This reveal is exciting but not entirely unexpected, given how Valve have been slowly adding in assets and code related to the Techies for some time now.
It still remains to be seen whether Valve plan to introduce any more hidden stretch goals later down the line, but we'll be sure to let you know if they do.
