So I got Dark Messiah for Christmas but only about 2 days later I installed it...first off I was rather annoyed that it took literally 20 hours to update(I hade to leave the PC on even as I slept for this period)...then, I started to play and GASP! the opening video doesn't play I just hear the sounds but the screen is black(sometimes white)...I found this odd because my video card is 256 mb as recommended, and is a Radeon 9200..which as far as I know Dark Messiah is compatible with...then the game runs with a bit of lag even on the lowest settings, and for some reason the "see in the dark" magic thing simply has no effect at all! It's as if I'm not using it! And any subsequent videos simply won't play...it's funny cause apparently my computer meets all the requirements! My ATI driver is updated btw

all the latest Valve games run perfectly on my PC with Medium settings...if anyone could suggest what exactly I have to upgrade on my PC, I would greatly appreciate it...thanks in advance!

i aslo had problems with single player after i activated it in steam.

here's what fixed it for me: in steam, tell it to never update the single player, then repair the installation from the CD.

you can also experiment with skipping the 1.01 patch and only installing the 1.02 patch.

Repair the installation from the CD? sorry, I totally suck at messing with computers, could anyone run me through this?

Thanks!

dark messiah is more demanding then most of the valve games. just because the recommend requierments say 256mb card does not mean any 256mb card will be great for it. the 9200 is a dx8.1 card so im not surprised that its running poorly.

can you make a recommendation for a decent video card?

A good budget card would probably be the XFX Geforce 6600gt, It has serverd me for a long while, and still can run things on max. However, if you are looking for a bit more longetivity, i'd go with the 7600 GT. Both are great cards, and provide a lot of Bang for the buck.

I figure the Radeon 9800XT would do the job well also.

don't expect to run dark messiah on high settings with a 6600gt or 9800xt - your going to need at least a 7600gt or 7800gt for that......

I don't care about high settings..I just want to play with no stuttering and be able to watch the FMVs.

From what I've heard, Dark messiah IS a technical problem! :D
