I just picked up Immolate Yourself after watching a Halo 3 video that had the title track playing as the soundtrack. Had it for two days now and it's easily the best thing I've heard of '09 so far, and whilst we're only 3 months in, I've heard quite a few good albums from favourite bands of mine in the last few weeks (the new Metric album, for one) but this takes the cake.

I'm just going to go straight up and say it's an electronica album because I cannot be ****ed to go name dropping it as anything else because a) I've not a clue what it is, really and b) no u. It's sort of a blend of Boards of Canada with a little more of a step to it, maybe akin to the better Daft Punk tracks out there, with the murky and gloomy downtrodden vocals laden with effects ala Burial with some ambient washes, soundscapes and clicky-clacky noise thrown in for good measure to give the all the tracks a good few layers of texture.

I know there's a few fans of the above around here and it's rare I make a album recommendation, but I just gotta put this out there as I'm a little surprised myself at how little attention these guys seem to be getting, or at least as far as I can see, anyway. I'm unsure as to whether they're going to continue making music as one of the duo was killed recently which sucks.

I heart Telefon Tel Aviv and the newest album is fantastic. The one dying is really unfortunate.

I aquired their first album today but I haven't had time to listen to it yet, though I put the first two tracks on earlier just to give it a test. Okay stuff, but not as eye-opening as The Birds from Immolate Yourself. Stunningly good opener.
