Tell me a good book and I'll give you 0.05$

Have you read Animal Farm by George.. the guy who wrote 1984? It's short (I finished it in a couple hours), but it's good.

Noam Chomsky (9/11, Manufacturing Consent)
Kurt Vonneghut
Irvine Welsh

to name a few ..far too many good books to list here

No Noam Chomsky :p

Tell me something not political. And anti-anarchist.

Dean Koontz's books are very good. :) A lot of them are like blending reality with supernatural stuff... he does it really well...

theres 200 books, give me $10 as promised please :frown: 5 cents a book remember

some of those books are classic but L Ron Hubbard? his battlefield earth was ok but he shouldnt even be on that list ..btw now that scientology is classified as a "religion" does that mean that all of his science fiction novels are no longer works of fiction?

Hostage to the devil by Malachi Martin is a good read.

Asimov has some nice books (besides "End of Eternity") like The Foundation Trilogy and lots of short stories...

Life of Pi - Yann Martel (seriously entertaining and great book)

Galapagos - Kurt Vonnegut (loved it)

And one of my favorites, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie - it's more a novella, but it's awesome. funny name, yes, but amazing little gem.

longer - 4 book series - Otherland by Tad Williams. about virtual worlds. really amazing series. i loved them to death.

I cant stand Margaret Atwood, in English AS we had to study her book, 'the handmaids tale'... i hated it. so terrible. i just dont think (that book atleast) she's a very good author, imaginative but her writing style really puts me off.
Hehe I havent read handmaids tale, but I've skimmed and it looked pretty bad so I'll take your word for it. I love orxy and crake though, one of the few books I can take alot from and apply to myself. Which is always good :).

Ive been wanting to get into lovecraft, what are some good books to start with? Any suggestions?
Personally I'd look for a collection that has some of the following: The Rats in the Walls, The Call of Cthullu, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Colour Out of Space, and The Whisperer in The Darkness.
People seem to either love him or hate him...his speach and style of writing are both prosaic and scientific, and it seems to take a major attention span to read since he goes into such detail over some things. That said, he absolutely grabbed me from the first story I read, although I may suggest reading a few of his shorter stories (especially those in the Cthullu mythos) to decide if you like him.
