Ok, i just moved my computer to a very cramped space and the cpu temp went up to 70C!!! I had only one 80mm exhaust. I just spent half an hour making a 120mm blowhole. The temperatures are still higher than my old ones (30 C). Any ideas?

Air flow is king. Get some cool air to the case (I wouldn't resort to opening the side panel though unless you like dust).

Get it off the floor if it's down there. If you put it in a desk door made for a PC, make sure there are air holes in the front someplace. Either in the door or through the floor.

My computer drawer in my desk has no airflow at all, so i just put it on the floor. I dont think i have room on top of my desk for it. I'll try tommorow when i'm less lazy. I also figured out my 80mm rear fan is now on intake. Here is my current setup. 1 x 80mm rear exhaust, 1 x 120mm top exhaust. I'll also try cleaning off the dust.

What case do you have, would be interesting to see where teh fan mounts are.

I got a cheap ass diablotek case.

well there you go, maybe you should get a nicer case with more fans

haha, i have to laugh at that. i've had my case opened like that for the last few years, and man, its dusty.

Ok i just checked sandra and asusprobe, asusprobe is reporting temperatures 10 degrees higher than sandra. Off topic but, can I do the same pencil trick to unlock the multiplier on this chip as you could with older athlons?

My dad has his PC behind a desk door for PCs. The air has a way to get out but no way in. There was some space under the desk where the PC sits so he actually took a drill and made 6 to 8 holes in the floor right under the front intake fan on the PC. Works pretty decent for airflow.

Not sure about the pencil trick, but you could also try everest home edition for temps. I find that everest is the most accurate, infact its the same as asus probe, so I would trust the Asus probe prog for temps.

is the what's the temp of the room in the cramped space? My PC is in my basement so it's always nice and cool.

I checked out the pencil thing, and i need something more conductive than graphite for my cpu :-(. This room was at 88 degrees. Now it's at about 75 tho, but the blowhole really helped my temps.

Would a temperature of 59 Celsius be bad for an AthlonXP 1800+?

Anything constantly over 50C is not preferable. Try to get it below 50C for most of the time.

60C is perfectly fine for the CPU but most ppl want it under that incase temp starts to rise. Then you would have a bit more room before it would be considered too hot.

I have an old athlon Xp 2600+ (133*16 i think) through teh house in a really old case that I have modded to add fan mounts, and it runs at about 50degree's C when its doing nothing. I think that temp is ok for those CPU's, although I do want to reseat the HSF and get a slightly more powerful HSF for it. Also a better case for it too, something to keep it alittle cooler. I would be happy with 40, but that might be being alittle too optimistic.

My temperatures are at a steady 48 C. I have an athlon xp 2800. I'm gonna try that pencil trick though, i wanna get my cpu to the exact same fsb and multiplier as the 3200.
