I was unaware it was your decision. Don't you think it would be a little less arrogant requesting the limit to be removed, then seeing what everyone else thinks, before straight off making a poll?

Ahem, Abom I was going to send this to Munro. It is like a petition. I am sorry I haven't clarified this in the original post. Having a bad day?

You could have worded this 'petition' a little better. Maybe something like "Do you like the ten character limit?" instead of "Do you want it removed?" I dunno about anyone else, but it makes it seem like you run the place or something.

Sending your thoughts to Munro first would have probably been the best thing, instead of diving straight in.

Hes just asking people of their opinions, no need to get snappy ffs

It sounds like you're the snappy one here. I'm just projecting as to why I think this was a little rash in the first place.

Abom's right, sorry Ray_MAN / Fat Tony. He could have worded it or gone about it much better.

Well you've got to take in account that he is only 13 years old.. and he doesn't really know how to do this kinda stuff yet... I diddn't know when i was 13... but now I do.

Don't be so harsh on him.

Abom was rather snappy, calling me arrogant and everything. I know I could have worded it better. I just had to well...go... If you know what i mean. I would edit it too late though. Being 13 has nothing to do with it.

Well I think it does, but thats relating to when I was 13... I knew sooo little back then... well compared to what I know know.... wich isn't alot :p

Hmm...I'm gonna go with hate it.
It makes it harder for me to Spam. Wait, I like food.:)
Hmmm....Maybe it doesn't. Eh, I'll go with hate it, just to make things interesting.

The 10 character limit really does nothing, people who want to add one word, potentially useless comments still can do so by adding something along the lines of (filler space).
I don't hate it or like it, I've never been yelled at by the 10 character limit nazi that lurks when you try to post a reply :)

By the way, I agree. Not all 13 year olds are clueless, ray_Man seems more mature and smarter than most 13 year olds I've had the (dis)pleasure of conversing with over the internet.

what are that ten characters?
and another thing the signature is that thing writed under a line in the en of the post?how can I hav one?
I wanna know all the options of how to post like how I can quote?whit the botton "Quote message in reply?"

Pointless rule, if you ask me.

And, <RJMC>, the ten character limit means that you have to have at least ten letters in any message you post on these forums. A signature can be added by using the User Control Panel (User CP) at the top of the page. And to quote someone, use the little blue button at the bottom of the post you want to quote.

If you want to use the "Quote message in reply?" option on the Quick reply. Click the little paper icon with a downwards arrow (next to the reply icon Brian mentions) then tick the "Quote message in reply?" and then type away, it wont show the quote until you click "Post Quck Reply" or click Go Advanced which will send you to the normal message page where you'll see the quote in there.

I'm not going to vote because it's quite obvious the mods like it and they arn't going to get rid of it because of a opinion poll.

I don't see whats so bad about the way ray worded it, could have been worse, could have been better. It's not like he's telling anyone how to do there job, I think Abom misinterpreted it that way.

The only difference the 10 character limit has made is that we now have to hear about it.

A ten character limit makes sense. The only problem is that you can't post a reply saying simply 'mad'. However, if you are desperate, you can say 'Mad. Quite mad.' Which should suffice for most people.

By reading his message, I interpreted it like the community makes the decision on this matter, like you can all override what has already been decided here. We decided to use the 10 character limit because it would hopefully reduce some cases of spam where people just reply with a pointless "Yes" or "No", "I agree" or whatever. I just got annoyed because of the way it was said, that's all. ray_MAN just dived straight in asking if anyone wants it changed, when he could have started with a suggestion to Munro (as stated earlier), or a poll asking if people like the limit, as opposed to asking if it should be removed straight away.

I apologize if I was a little too harsh on you, but the way the message was construed really got to me.

I don't mind polls like this tbh. If the community dislikes this feature I'll remove it - the feature was introduced when I installed vb3 and I never bothered to disable it. At the time of posting it's a 60/40 split so get the rest of you to vote.

o 10 character limit.... i never knew it was even there....i dont really care if its on or off...whos posts less then 10 characters??

my personal take on it is, 'if its not longer than 10 characters, then its certainly not worth saying at all.'

Sometimes I don't like it, but its rare to ever make a post with less than 10 characters so I really don't care.

...............
yep ;)

Hmmmm, tricky question. I think that something less than ten characters isn't really worth saying. If you just want to say 'I agree' change it to 'I agree because...'. The only problem with the ten character limit is that I have actually seen more people saying stuff like 'LOL!!!!!!! (Ha Ha, it's ten characters!)', and I find that really annoying. I'm not going to vote, because I don't feel strongly enough either way (there is no point at all voting 'I don't care').

This post is 488 characters, including this sentence but without spaces. Thank you for listening (this sentence too). :)

sometimes there is a need to have a message less then 10 characters, such as "wtf" or "lol!" etc.. i mean whats wrong with them they add charecter to the thread ;)

It sucks when I want to say something short and simple like, "Oh". The 10 character limit forces me to do something like, "Ooooohhhhh." Also when I want to say "Yeah" or "Yes".

it has it's good points and it's bad points .... for a start it stops useless spamming .. but our community has gotten to the point where the majority are fairly sensible :)

Perhaps a trial of it being off to test the waters

When hv you been mod-ed Hot soup?
Never saw you as mod...

Oh... but you've been KINDA in active... and whats with the purple text?

Are you here to stay? I have only seen you once since I got here.

ray_MAN you didnt do anything wrong, it's a forum for public chat, do what you want. and YES I hate it. :)

I think that ray_man could have worded his ...err... words better, but I do think he has a good point. I think that the 10 char rule is a good one, because it stops needless posts, not so much spamming. I haven't seen any real crap anywhere, so I think that the limit should stay. But who care's what I say?

I kinda like it myself...as a couple others have said: if you're only saying something under ten characters what is that truly adding to the thread?

But, it's something which is too easy to get around by just adding a word here and there, or "......" or anything else. So I'm not really sure how much it truly helps.
