The gaming-oriented television channel G4 has made their interview with Doug Lombardi available online. It focuses mainly on Valve's upcoming map "The Lost Coast" and HDR in general.[br]</br>
Here is an excerpt:
Q:What is "The Lost Coast?"[br]</br>"The Lost Coast" is a single mission that takes place on the Highway 17 area of the game. It is specifically a piece of content that is aspiring to push the envelope in a couple of areas that are more on the technical and art production sides. While it is a new mission and whatnot, it is a free, new thing for all the owners of Half-Life 2 that have the high-end hardware. What we’re specifically trying to do here is not say, “Here’s this big, new piece of content for Half-Life 2,” but instead say, “Here’s this new technology that’s being introduced to the engine,” and it’s being manifested in the way of a new, short mission that people can check out.

Cool avatar, Collateral rules. "Get the **** in the car."

Interesting read. Going to be released in 1-2 months? Awesome.

*pats his ti4400*

Don't worry old girl, we'll be able to handle HDR ;(

*pats his ti200*

We don't stand a chance in hell of handling HDR

*throws his GeForce4 MX440 outside*

Run, bitch! Run! Don't let them catch you!

I know it's not April fools cuz the article is dated March 31st! :D

Well, bring it on, I want it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great. I hope my 9600XT will be able to handle it.
I wish they'd release some screens.

Maybe they'll release something in the next Steam Update News?
And.. what can I do with my FX5200 non-ultra ^^?

I've got the same card, but Im not that mean. :p

the polls on that site are wierd.

'Under what circumstances would you place a web server in your rectum?'

:|

Yes, stay away from any TechTV related polls.

Although I'm sure it's some kind of inside joke...

I hope.

Lol that's actually pretty good. I'd participate in polls if they bothered to make them interesting like that.

You can catch a clip of the level in this clip from the show Doug Lombardi was on.

Hmph, Video card abusers.

*Pats his 9600 XT, with a 1600° beating stick*
Down, bitch.

I'm not so much worried about my videocard handling the new clunk in the engine so much as every other piece of hardware working smoothly with the added load (see: "We don't know anything about any Audio Hick-ups....here's a patch for it though")

My 6800 Ultra should handle it fine, though the 2.8 GHz @533 MHz FSB may make things a bit interesting.

The short video-clips of the Monastery seen within the tech-demo look cool....but getting that geometrically intensive map to run above 30 FPS on my rig(s) will be the ultimate decision-maker for me (of whether or not the HDRI tchnology is overrated bloat or a neat new feature).

*will be patting his X850 XT PE in about 2+ weeks :E* Dell rules atm

looks awesome.

u all think that in the future, the sun will move in games according to real life times, and it will go dark etc...

and do you think we will be able to change the weather in multiplayer servers (snow, sun, rain) in future gaming?

i also think placing your own face onto a character well be in multiplayer games soon...

STALKER already does two out of three.

;)

I know that World of Warcraft has a realtime-sync with the time of day/timezone certain servers are located in (EST, PST, etc.) and certain events are triggered by the time of day (The church bells toll every hour on the hour, etc).

I'm fairly sure that changing the weather conditions wouldn't be much of a problem (I've already seen in everything from Football games to Racing sims).

Placing your face on an ingame avatar? Unreal Tournament 2004 has something that makes that VERY simple. I've also seen some interesting Picasso-esque attempts at "put yourself in the game" features in NBA Live '99 a few NHL sports titles.

I, personally, can't wait until 3D-scanners become attainable to consumers and allow us to scan ourselves into software as character models for games and animations. As it stands, that technology is still within the prosumer realm. :(

I will be able to handle it i suppose...

ATI Radeon 9800XT 256DDR
AMD Athlon 64 2.0ghz 1MB Cache (Faster then 3.2 AMDXP)
1024DDR PC3200 (400mhz)

When i can run HL2 with 16x AF and 6x AA smooth this should work... :p (At 1280x968)

Some areas don't fit with certain weather types. Can you imagine playing Ravenholm in the afternoon? It would just not have the same effect.

I have the real name :smoking:

I wish they would just release the minimum specs required so people dont get their hopes up and then have to learn the their vid card cannot play it. I'm using a Radeon All-in-wonder 9800pro. I only get 100fps average in the CS:S stress test. I have a feeling I might just make it on the lost coast boat.

I should be able to play it right? You dont need a new gfx card with like shader 3 do you? Just a good one? Then my 9800 XT should be able to handle it.
