CS is tactical? lol

lets see: pretty much identical teams and weapons.
5 man teams, rounds over on 3 minutes - rushing and deathmatch lol lolz0r?!1
no one ever bothers with the objectives, its just a free for all.
silly damage model - shoot someone in the head? they die. shoot someone in the heart? they dont die.
slow and borrrring.

TFC:
fast - for skilled players
8 different classes. not different in ak vs m4 different, but TOTALLY different.

egs: a spy who can act as a member of enemy team
an engineer who can build sentry guns and teleporters
medics and scouts who can concussion jump and heal team mates (teamplay anyone?)
demo men who can blow up obstacles or lay pipe bomb traps

the list goes on and on. CS is for people who prefer simplistic deathmatch style. tfc is for people who like to learn special skills, fast paced game and actual squad based tactics based around the notions of attack and defence - heard of those 2 CS noobs?

Wow you are a moron guy. If you ever played anything other than pubs while playing CS you would see that amount of teamwork required. You have to know exactly what's going on with the rest of your teammates, where they are, who they're with, what they plan to do. Then the amount of tactics you need is incredible. Try watching something from the better teams of counter-strike. I used to be in Project X last season before I quit CS (no more time for this obsession with a game), who ended up in the 3rd round of the finals for Cal-O I believe. Anyways, it has much more strategy than you may think. Either way, playing TFC or CS you can't judge by playing in pubs - you need a good clan.

bigun, I know that, but from my experience the admins are mostly power obsessed random retards or just hyper active "you threw a gren around a corner, so you must be wallhacking" style :) excluding me ofcourse ;)

To be honest the multiplayer game I had the most fun playing was Paintball(Quake2 mod I believe). Bounding around waiting for your air cartrige, searching feverishly for more paintballs, because you wasted it all on a bunker that didn't have anyone in it, and tossing a paint grenade just before you get shot and laughing your backside off as the guy who shot you tries to get your gun and gets splattered. Damn that was fun.

The original TF was cool(nail grenades rocked). I loved it. The sniper jump was really funny(two same team snipers, one on top of the other, bottom one fires as the top one jumps, SERIOUS air time, makes the rocket jump seem lame).

Damn that was fun ;) the funniest thing in that for me was that I usually played on servers that had reverse team damage ;D

I think part of the fascination is just to see what the game is, after all these years of waiting and wondering. Personally I hope they have a mixture of the other mods in the game, in terms of classes, map objectives, jumping skills, team-work etc.

The Team Fortress genre (yes, I'm calling it a genre) needs some fresh life injected into it, because as fun as it still is, the remaining players seem to be crusty veterans or struggling newbies, with such a wide skill difference that the older players get frustrated, and the newer players give up from either being flamed or thrashed left, right and centre.

For those wondering what the big deal about TF / TFC is, one of the reasons is surely the emotion attached to it compared to other games. I've never seen as much jubilation, satisfaction, frustration and flaming associated with a game.

Also I want to point out(=advertise) that Team Fotresses tend to be.. more rewarding imho, if you could say that. Ie. in Counter-Strike, the fights have an exciting feeling and feel very cool in places, but they tend to repeat themself. In TF there was always a longer battle. If 2 soldiers met, the fight's outcome wasn't decided by who shot first and where, but the use of the clumsy launcher decided. Like how dæmon said it. When you beat a battle, you get a bigger "Muahahaha" -experience, if you know what I mean. This is why I like it that the players last for a while and don't die right away.

I actually like TFC, yeah it is unrealistic, but what the hell. At least it doesn't claim to be realistic like CS which has to be the most unrealistic Counter-Terror game that claims to be realistic game out there. At least TFC doesn't claim that it is realistic and requires TeamWork to win. Unlike CS who says *Gotta use strategy and skill* pfft, what skill? All you have to do is get an AWP and you have a great chance of wiping out the entire enemy team..lol

The real problem with TFC is that, in this day and age, it's so generic. By that, I mean that it was innovative when it came out, but in the almost 8 years that have passed since TF first came out, the concept of multiplayer team games with different class choices has been done many many many times, in many many different themes. At this point, nothing about TF/TFC stands out other than it came first. So it's hard to know what to expect from TF2. If it were simply an update of TFC it wouldn't really have cause to stand out among all the other team combat mods. Obviously, it's going to have to be very new, and if it's a retail product, very full featured and polished. So we just can't have a clue about what it will be like. We haven't really even seen what it involves for years now.

TFC sux IMO. Mindless shooting (which is fun to some people). I prefer CS 100:1 to TFC. No strategy whatsoever. It's like a dumbed-down version of the first UT, what with all the repsawning and whatnot.
There is more teamplay in TFC than there will ever be in CS :p
I know both games very well, TFC just takes more skill and team-coorination, and not just a little bit :p

The gameplay of TFC stratches further than CS. The gfx suck, but it's amazing...coming out of your base, concing high in the air, avoiding rockets, and concing towards the flag...BAM throwed the flag in the pit just before the SG killed me. Rush++
Wonderfull feeling, not comparable to CS at all :(

omg i almost forgot about this mod till you said somehting. It was a blast. i didnt play it much for some reason, but when i did play it, i remember it being a lot of fun. And yah, it was a quake2 mod.

thanks for bringing back some memories

i think TF2 will have alot of new idears. i think it will come as a plesent surprise

You guys are making me nostalgic, I've just gone and installed TFC again :p

hah you guys talk about tfc as if it was totally dead ;) it's not(yet). There are still many active leagues and tons of servers and players.

Hehe I think Paintball was the most fun when you were playing on a LAN. That way you could hear someone say, "crapcrapcrapcrap DAMMIT!" or, "hehehe AWE MAAANNNN!" or you could taunt them with a "Here catch"(as you toss the nade)

I liked it because it was one shot one kill(no matter what gun), and you could kill someone hiding behind something with a little luck(the paintballs traveled in an arc). The graphics sucked(what do you expect from Q2), but it was seriously fun.
