Since theres a lack of HL2 info/threads at the min I thought I would bring up a little point, if any of you have read any Stephen King, specifically the 'Dark Tower' series the citadel bears a striking resembalance to The Dark Tower. If youve read the series youll see what I mean, if not switch off your tv and pick up a book :) I wonder if it will be more similar in the actual game, since we dont know much about it

Well, I don't know about how much the Dark Tower resembles the Citadel, but I do know one thing: time definitely works differently at Valve than in does in our world.

And Doug has certainly forgotten the face of his father!

That's a little harsh, he simply forgot how to read a calendar ;)

That's okay, the world will move on :).

I love those books!

i've read all the "dark tower" books.
i never really thought about it, but now that you have brought it up, you are right!

the towers do have a similarity to them.

i'll have to research it more!!!!

So, will Gordon reach the Tower? And, does that mean Barney is Oy?

It was definitely a good series...but I didn't like the ending very much. And, just for the nitpickers out there, the proper quote would be, "Thankee, sai."

With a slight stretch of the imagination, you could say the Dark Tower in Mordor looks like the Citadel :p

Yeah, i noticed the similarity and i wouldn't be surprised if The Citadel was inspired by the Dark Tower series. Don't forget the 1st Half-life was inspired by "The Mist", a story also by Stephen King.

Actually Barney should be Eddie - Barney looks like a druggie in some of the screenshots :E

EDIT: spelling

just so long as they don't cut off Alyx's legs and rename Dog, Oy ;)

Oh and please no one spoil the last book... I'm reading it now. It's taking longer than the others, maybe it's cos I know it's the last :(

Personally I think the Dark Tower series would make a GREAT RPG! It's just begging for that genre treatment.

wow, that would ROCK! awesome idea, man :bounce:

It's actually been one that I've been promoting for sometime and I've received generally positive feedback for it.

Can i have a snipit of synopsis please???

A synopsis isn't easy with the Dark Tower...it's seven books long and King's been writing it since he was a freshman at the University of Maine!

Basically, if follows Roland Deschain, a gunslinger in an alternate world from ours, in his journey to the Dark Tower. Roland's world is "moving on" (basically falling apart...like the end of time) and he is the last of an order the serves the White (the forces of good that protect the world). The Tower is the nexus of all realities...basically the thing that holds ALL universes together. The Tower is held up by the Beams (kinda like magnetism...it's complicated), but the Beams are being destroyed by the Crimson King and his psychic breakers.

During his journey, Roland "draws" companions through a series of magic doors from other worlds to help him. His ka-tet (a group brought together by fate) consists of Jake (a kid from NY that died in the 1970's), Eddie (a heroin junkie, also from NY...from the 1980's), Susannah (a black woman who lost her legs when she was pushed in front of a subway train and has some "personality disorders"...from NY too, this time from the 1960's), and Oy (a billy bumbler from Roland's world...looks like a cross between a dog and a raccoon and has limited speech abilities).

I could go on for pages and pages...but I'd recommend just reading the damn series.
