but never know where it originally came from.

To be honest, ive wanted to know what the hell this scream was for years. Ive heard it in so many films, and every time I hear it I cant help but think 'who actually recorded that' and when was it first used.

Its also the sound used when you select the Terran Barracks in Starcraft.

Alot of links will get you to, propably, the Wilhelm scream, thats this one, which is the most used scream by Hollywood apparently:

Which Star Wars LOVES using.

lol, i've always wondered about this. You would think they would have the budget to come out with some more screams instead of recycling the same old crap.

Isn't that first one in the intro to that cartoon "Real Monsters"?

Haha I find it so great when I hear the wilhelm scream.

If I'm not mistaken there's a female one like it too. Anybody know what that is called?

I have known about the two in the vids but the ones im constantly trying to find are the ones that could be heard alot in the first command and conquer when units died. Y'know the ones that sound like "yeallll!" and "guaah!".

Yeah the 'Ahhh Real Monsters' from Nickelodeon..which come to think of, I remember some of.

I think cinema in general would be a lesser art if the Wilhelm scream and others were not continually used.

They show Real Monsters in the first clip, so they are indeed the same. :D

I hate that scream so much. It's a terrible scream.

I definitely remember that one from Dark Forces/ Ahh! Real Monsters the most.

i hate these screams, i started recognizing them way back when i was a little kid. Whenever i would hear the scream in a movie i would tell my friends that they used the soundfile from other movies...they refused to believe me, god that made me angry. "LOL WAT u cant juzt copy saund liek dat ur dumb" ultra rage...

Terran Academy.

I always thought the scream from the first video was the "Wilhelm Scream" everyone talked about. Guess I was wrong all these years.

I heard about these a while ago and really wish I hadn't. I flinch every time I hear them now. :(

I was too busy listening to all the times the Jurassic Park T-rex roar and the Alien ship alarm were used in media.

The Wilhelm scream is cool. It always reminds me of Return of the Jedi, that pony-tailed dude that gets eaten by the Sarlaac lets 'er rip on his fall into it. Starcraft uses a lot of common sounds. The Barracks sound you posted isn't the only one. I've heard tons of other Starcraft sound effects in other random places. Another one of the building sounds (I honestly don't remember which one) is in Fight Club, for instance.

Isn't that scream in The Force Unleashed as well?? I think I've heard this scream in just about every action movie I've seen. It'll never get old

lol.

I'm surprised they didn't have Luke falling down the shaft as one of them.

I'll probably notice it now, but I wouldnt've noticed it myself. I mean it's just a scream used in a movie and not even in scenes of major importance and the next time I'd hear it in another movie could be weeks away, so why would I notice this?

Anyway, why don't they record the screams of the actors and recycle a scream like that instead? Maybe it is an inside joke as Monkey said...

It IS an inside joke slash tradition. No maybe about it.

Isn't this the same sound for the fast zombie in HL2, only somewhat faster?

Also, in Goldeneye 64, whenever you killed some soldier, the same sound that the soldiers made appears in several movies. I lol when I hear the sound in the movie, reminds me of Goldeneye.

Heh, these screams have always bugged me. Never noticed the first one was used in Real Monsters though, and I love that show
I always called it the "Ahh! Real Monsters" scream. :p

Kind of made it that much weirder whenever I heard it in a movie...

^this. It's also in Need for Speed II: Special Edition

Woah i feel old as shit.

Haha this is great, i always noticed the 1st one. Cant say the same for the 2nd.

In Return of the Jedi, the imperial officer in a black uniform who Han throws the tool box at and he falls over the ledge yelling the wilhelm scream is the original guy who voiced that scream. They cameo'd him into the movie so that he would re-create the scream live on set.

You know that shitty, way overused explosion sound from like every war movie from the '50s through the '80s? I've always wanted to know the details on that sound. If you've ever seen The Longest Day or To Hell and Back, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Skip to about 1:30 on this video and enjoy.

Skip to 2:15 on this one. It gets ridiculously overused in The Bridge at Remagen.

I understand that they had limited capabilities as far as sound design goes, but come on! People must have gone to war expecting to hear this exact sound.

So thats what the second one was called. Reconized it alot.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

I heard the wilhelm scream on a kid's tv show this morning and turned around because I recognised it.

I'm worried where else I'm gonna hear this! :D
