The 12 string guitar...

What.

I had an acoustic which was easy, now I have my double neck (electric 12/6). Doesn't hurt, but I suppose it only hurts if you are A GOD DAMN GIRL YOU FUDGING PANSY.

Double the strings, double the tension on the fingers. Wider neck, harder to stretch. This would sound so awesome if I could actually fret the strings. I'll just keep practicing until I build up thicker calluses.

I'm not trying to sound like some guitar douche or anything, but why you playing a 12 string you should have good enough calluses already?

That's what I thought too, but I was mistaken. After an acoustic show with my band I was like "hmm, it would be nice to have an acoustic electric for the stage... ah what the hell, I'll get a twelve string because they sound awesome!" and then I just ordered one without playing first, then played for like 20 minutes before my fingers started to bleed...

lol I kinda did the same thing I was in my local music shop and I seen the 12 string wall.

"MAN I WANNA TRY ONE"

*plays for 10 minutes*

"AWESOME HOW MUCH?"

"$400"

*buys*

"AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME"

Twas a Fender electric acoustic. Good stuff. Sold it to a 12 year old girl for $600. Kind of evil now that I think about it. Meh.

First acoustic guitar I ever played was an ancient 12 string that my then girlfriend's father owned. Amazing, amazing instrument.

Yea, you can hear the muted strings on the 12. Takes time, but it's worth the huge ass calluses you'll get.

seems like you couldn't do any cool stuff with a 12 string that you could on a normal 6 string like bends or fast playing in general.

But it sounds 100 times more awesome.

or I could just have my effects pedal do it for me and then I'd still be able to do awesome things.

I have an FX pedal too, it's not even close to being the same.

I also suppose you could do the cool thing like what I did and sell your acoustic 12 string and buy this...

My baby lol.
Top is 12, bottom is 6.

There's your answer, Hazar.

That's cool and all, but I just find those to be so cheesy. Whenever I see one at a show, in the back of my head I'm branding the guy whose holding it as being a snob.

"Look at me, my guitar is so awesome, its like two guitars! You thought you liked one guitar dawg, well now you can have some guitar in your guitar so you can strum while you strum!"

oh my god.

That's my new slogan, thanks, I'm stealing it.

Seriously though, I'll tell you about when I first got it..

So when I got it played it and got used to it and all, then the next day I brought it to school. I brought it into my commtech class and we hooked it up to the PA, my teacher (who's a bass player) and my friend (who's a guitar player) were playing it and all, then we cranked it.

We had a crowd of about 50 people in that little room purely because of the double neck (I know this because we always crank guitars and basses and play drums in there and normally like 3 people (friends) show up to watch). So after this little show, I was talking to people about it, and got 3 different girls phone numbers. After that I packed it up and started on my way home. I was walking down the hall to go to my locker carrying the big case, and one of my friends who I'd previously told about it came up to me and said "man is that the double neck? Let's see!" so I busted it out to show him, didn't even take it out of the case, just showed him what it looked like, then suddenly when I turned around (literally like 10 seconds) there were about 10 people with their camera phones out (including my friend) taking pictures talking about how awesome it was.

Then I went home..

The double neck is ballin, you cannot lie. It's get's the ladies, it draws a crowd. It's fun to play, also. Ever hear Xanadu by Rush? I can play that song without switching guitars, son.

hahaha, so true

I think it's more impressive if you can play a simple instrument very well rather than a fancy one not very well though. I have no idea how good you are though dog :p

Well it's not fancy, it's just two guitars on one body so you don't have to switch between two guitars. If you can play a normal 12 string and a normal 6 strings, chances are you can play this the exact same way. Atleast with mine you can lol.

As to the "hard to play" issue - make sure you get the guitar set up properly - If you buy a brand new guitar, they generally aren't set up to play stock from the factory, at least not ideally. Take it to your local guitar shop to have it properly set up, so they can get the action as low as possible without the strings rattling on the fretboard. It'll make a world of difference.

I don't mean to promote my own video, but I just uploaded this, and since you guys were dissin my double neck, thought this could show you it's not a gimmick! Electric 12 strings (like with distortion) sounds awful, and it's hard to do a solo with bends on a 12 string (otherguy can back me up on the difficulty of the bends).
