The 4th HL2 Video on Steam

Here's the big question though. When will games start to have deformable models? Remember in the video when the strider skewers the guy on the street? Although the animation is good, the effect is cheezy because they obviously don't keep going with physics since they didn't have any physics way to skewer the guy. I wonder at what point we'll start to see actual holes in people, or the ability to stab through a model and have it react correctly.

I don't want it to be so gory where you see a bleeding whole through a character if you stab them with a knife. If you like that nasty stuff you can always play Solder of Fortune 2: Double Helix. :mryuck:

Remember that half-life was the first game to show a body fly apart into a giant splat of gore, blood, and leg bones on the floor. after a round was over with the gluon gun, the walls, floor and ceiling were completely covered with blood splatters and body parts.

Thats not the same as having someone die ultra-realisticaly in front of you. Thats not my cup of tea. Of course you might also like the faces of death videos , and hey if you do be my perverted guest and go ahead and wish for this stuff. Me , Im fine now thnx.

oh c'mon, no one's saying that stuff about faces of death except you. wouldn't it be great to be able to stab through boxes, or smash through a peice of furniture with a fork lift and drive it around to hit something with it? not being able to penetrate an object under lots of various circumstances is rather limiting. they could easily disable it for people models if they choose not to go in that direction.

id like to see a super-powerful crossbow, so when you shoot someone, it goes through them and pins them up against a wall!

This sounds like stabbing people rather than things to me. But thats not the important part , imagine how much processing all that would take.

i'm amazed that *nobody* has noticed that the "screenshots" of the supposedly new video are captures from the gameplay video with a bink window slapped on top. it's exactly the same. everything from the shaky-cam style (notice how it's not straight on. the edge of the screen is plainly visible going at a sharp angle at the top) to the gamespot logo, which was not present on the high quality videos valve released.

also, stop getting so upset over the video not coming out yet. being pissy at valve about not being punctual with something they dont need to do for us in the first place won't make the video suddenly appear on your hard-drive.

Sorry, I learn English from a book.

Take a look at the attachement, can anyone please tell me what the **** is wrong with this picture? Why does it say "Half-Life 2 Movies - 114, 3 kb/s". My maximum download speed is 27-29 kb/s, what does this has to do with me? What do all the numbers mean on the Steam Monitor and my Local Area Connection Status, respectively?

Ok calm down!

Firstly your Local Area Connection is your Network connection speed, so you're on a 100Mb LAN.

This is different from your internet connection! :D

Now the download speeds in Steam are quoted in Kb/s not KB/s.

1KB (KiloByte) = 8 Kb (Kilobit) or 8 bits (b) in a byte (B).

So when you say your download speed is 27KB/s that is;

27 * 8 = 216 Kb/s,

so therefore you are utilising 50% of total bandwidth.

Explained??
