The 6 Most Ominous Trends in Gaming

Number five is such bullshit. He manages to go on about online gaming services without even mentioning the biggest one: Steam. More than likely because it's actually a good programme and thus would contradict his doom and gloom message.

"All of this requires a constant connection. Which requires constant security. Which requires constant bullshit. Ask any PC gamer, they're already there."
No we're not. Steam has a fully functioning offline mode and the only games that actually required a constant internet connection to play offline were the ones Ubisoft's bullshit DRM scheme which they have since turned off.

Number four is generic micropayments are bad. I'm not going to bother making any real argument here other than I don't think microtransactions are at their core evil and there are good instances of it and bad and simply don't give the developers who do it what you think is the bad way money.

Three is sequels are bad/no one has original ideas anymore. I sure as hell know I was so pissed off when Portal 2 came out. Those bastards at Valve! And if he wants to find originality there is plenty to go around, but if he's looking for it in a Modern Warfare 3 trailer he's a ****ing moron.

Two and one aren't even things that have to do with the current state of video games. They have always been true so putting them at the top of a list of why VIDEO GAEMS ARE GOONNNNAA DDDIIIIIIIEEEEEEE seems pretty damn stupid too.

Another worthless misinformed Cracked article like so many others. "Hey a bunch of mass produced shit games the masses buy because their marketed out the ass are becoming very stupid." If you don't like what's out there, play the million other games that are completely different. The actual future is that idiots will keep spending ever increasing prices for ever similar games while people who have the ability to make their own choices independant of an ad spot they see 40 times a day will buy games that are interesting, innovative, and fun. That's the only trend.

I don't know about him, but I could tell the difference in MW3 and BF3 easily......

Cracked.com stretches the truth quite a bit in order to entertain their audience which is expected to be somewhat uninformed on the subject. That seems to be their M.O. Their point about the future of the game business model seems pretty accurate, though.

And no doubt you've been following BF3 and recognized that screenshot because you've seen that exact one before. I showed them to a friend who played MW2 and only saw one or two of the trailers for BF3 and MW3 at E3 (holy shit 3's) and he guessed correctly, but said it was just a completely random guess, because he couldn't really tell.
