"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"

yay!!! My fave childhood hero is coming to pc gaming! CONAN!

"Durham, USA — April 20, 2005 – Funcom announces 'Age of Conan – Hyborian Adventures', an Online Action RPG scheduled for Windows in the first half of 2006. A mix of a deep, story-driven single-player experience and a massive and brutal multiplayer end-game brings forth the ultimate representation of the Age of Conan. Now you can enter the brutal domain of the world’s greatest fantasy hero.

In 'Conan' the players will encounter a dark, lush, violent and sinful universe, presented in fantastic graphics and stunning 7.1 surround audio. In a world filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia. But Conan’s rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils. In this twisted fantasy world, dark magic and brutal combat lurks around every corner, and each man and woman must carve their own unique destiny under Conan’s reign. In the true vision of Robert E. Howard’s dark universe it’s now time for you to become a messenger of death.

In addition to incredible graphics and sound, the game will be filled with unique features like the "Real Combat" engine; a revolutionary new multi-point melee system which allows the players to swing their weapons where they direct it, in real-time! This easy to learn and fun melee system lets the players truly feel they are on the battlefield, and goes head-on against the formulaic nature of online RPG combat. In 'Conan' you can also, for the first time in an online RPG, create player-made battle formations where you can command NPC’s and other players in combat, making for epic multiplayer battles. The multiplayer game also allow the players to form guilds and lay siege to enemy castles, letting their catapults sing their merry song of death as the enemy is crushed to a pulp."

sounds awesome ...hopefully they'll do better than the last conan game (horrible). Robert E Howards Hyborian age is a huge universe, hopefully they'll use the original Howard material as inspiration and make the game a deep rpg instead of just a hack and slash game

they have a lot to live up to ...painting by Frazetta:

The graphics look quite sexy. Plus, it's made by Funcom who've made an MMORPG before. Should be good!

new IGN preview and some screens ..the game looks good, sounds better ..hopefully more will be revealed at E3:

real time sword fighting sounds great:

"In order to facilitate that kind of violence, Funcom is introducing their Real Combat engine, a new "multi-point melee system" that will allow players to freely swing their weapons in different directions. Want to target an arm? Feel free. Go for the leg chop? The crutch industry will boom. Aim high? Heads will roll. Six different points can be targeted in total. All of this happens in real-time bringing a freedom to melee combat in an online arena that simply hasn't been seen up to this point. How well it works in practice is yet to be seen, but we're already sharpening our axes waiting to test it out."

It sounds awesome, it's just that I'm not sure about the idea of making an entire MMORPG universe based on Conan alone.
You have to wonder how popular it would get.

I agree ...but if you read the books there's quite a lot of material to pull from ..besides LOTR, Howards creations stand up as the definitive sword and sorcery universe ...nothing else comes close ...that said, games are not always very faithful to the media they draw their inspiration from ..whether it's movies or comics or books ..it usually comes across as half-baked

btw: thanks, I'm glad someone else is interested in this besides just me

really? is anarchy online bad?

No, it's quite good. Definitely not any worse than the MMORPG's around. One thing it did succeed in was conveying the futuristic atmosphere it was set in, so I suppose the Conan game would be cool if they did the same for that universe.

hmmmm now I'm curious. Maybe if I have some time (rarely) I'll dl it

DnD online > this, imo. :) I want info on that, i hope its featured at e3. I never knew there were conan books, i'll have to go get some out the library, i love wizard/sorcerer sorta stuff :D

if you like sword and sorcery pick up the Conan books by Robert E Howard ...the other authors wote about conan after Howards death(he created conan) ...People of the Black Circle is excellent. So is the first novel simply called Conan...Red Nails, Conan the Conqueror, Conan the Cimmerian

DDO is ok as a concept ..but kind of geeky ...you'll know what I mean after you read one of Howards books

That looks nothing like Conan O'Brien... :)
I think they should do the whole thing as planned... except replace the other Conan with Conan O'Brien, including his suit and trademark pompadour hair.. or just his head on the other Conan's body (see image). I'd play that game.
