4 hours before it has to be released to be "on time".

even if they HAD released it today, it would only have been released to the press and not to... us.
or at least that's what i think.
Hello Gabe, there has been a large amount of confusion about the HL2 benchmark. I recall you stating that it would be released on the 30th of September. It is September 30, 8:29 PM Pacific Western Time here in the US as I am typing this e-mail message, and yet we have no benchmark. When you do release it, will it be available to the public or only to the press? And do you have a set release date if you're not going to release it today? Thanks.

are you sure? each site gets some different numbers, they talk about their systems, and test different cards. for example, the official Valve Shader Days numbers excluded the ATI 9700 Pro. Well, Anandtech included it. There were a lot of limits to what the sites could do, but i'm 99 percent sure that they got the benchmark to use.

got proof from anandtech:
"We had to recap the issues here for those who haven't been keeping up with the situation as it unfolded over the past 24 hours, but now that you've seen what Valve has shown us, it's time to dig a bit deeper and answer some very important questions (and of course, get to our own benchmarks under Half-Life 2). "
and

read that carefully, and you'll see that they had the benchmark.

nope, they dont have it, they got to run their own benchmarks at the event, they didnt get given the benchmark.
some of the sites talk about the ati provided hardware not providing much variety to test on and such also.

Each site had 90 minutes to perform tests. They could bring their own graphics cards and decide what settings they wanted to use for each test, but that was it. They never got to touch the keyboard.
Due to time constraints, ATI limited reviewers to 90-minute benchmarking sessions with Half-Life 2. Each benchmarking run at a given resolution consisted of three separate demos, techdemo, bugbait, and e3_c17_02, so one run could take 20 minutes or more on slower hardware. Because of this, we teamed up with Dave Baumann of Beyond3D, Lars of Tom’s Hardware, and Bob Colayco from GameSpot, pooling all of our numbers together so we could bring you results at multiple resolutions, rendering modes, and with eye candy features such as AA enabled.
You're wrong:Originally posted by Xtasy0
no, they didnt bring their own videocards, all the hardware was provided at the event, they had two pc's with nvidia cards and two with ati cards.
At least one other site reported that they had performed tests on their own card too.http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030912/half-life-03.html
Since we also brought a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (Flipchip) card with us, we are also able to show performance numbers with that card.
