I'm sure Tarentino will be remembered for Pulp Fiction at the very least (not to mention his big personality).

Yes well that comment I made earlier was a bit...well, I used the wrong word, but I completely agree with DeusExMachinia in that people think he is the greatest director that ever lived.

He just seems to be the 'flavour of the week' for a lot of people since the Kill Bill movies and I'm wondering if these movies will ever stand the test of time? Will they be as great as they are today in another 50 years? Will Tarintino even be remembered in another 50 years? I think if you can answer yes to all those questions, then he is truly a great director. But hey, it all comes to your own personal opinion really.

(By the way, I love Resevoir Dogs and Pulp fiction..I have them all on DVD.)

Ok, I can respect this post.

You're no longer a moron.

At least you didn't type 'your a moron' like everybody else does when making similar statements. :p

and what about chris morris even though his film is only ten miniutes long he deserves to be up there! welcome in jaaaaaaaam!!

I don't see Coppola on that list...
Read the second post of this thread.

P.S. I have a correction: David Lean did not direct Some Like It Hot, that was Billy Wilder. Lean directed Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Oliver Twist, Blithe Spirit among others.

Poll over. Impressions everyone? Here are mine:

It became blindingly obvious to me when I woke up in the afternoon of the same day I'd created this list that I'd made a few mistakes with who I included. Unfortunately I'd stayed up until 04:00 in the morning and was fairly tired to say the least. As far as making a list of best directors, David Lean is definitely a candidate for inclusion. When you consider the demographic of the HL2.net forums, adding him to a list designed to reflect the opinions of the forumites was a bad idea. David Lynch should have taken his place.

The same could probably be said about Oliver Stone, although his replacement would be a more difficult choice, and one I'm glad I don't have to make.

As the first batch of results came in it was clear there were four main contenders to the throne: Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrik, Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino. Kubrik is the biggest surprise, I really thought he would have done better, even having gone so far as to suggest he'd win. He made a slow start but eventually pulled past Scott for 3rd place with nominations from 4 out of every 10 voters.

1st place was surprisingly close, and more interesting when you think about how dissimilar the rivals are. Tarantino took an early lead, although he never got much of a lead on Spielberg, who pulled through in the end to snatch it by a whisker, or one vote, in fact!

I'm still kicking myself for not including Lynch. Who knows if he might have pulled some of the votes and tightened the contest. We'll leave that for future polls to decide...

You also left out Alfred Hitchcock. While he's been dead for quite a while now you can't deny the huge influence he's had on cinema. He paved the way for a lot of todays directors.

He was in my original short(long)list, which you can find in this forum just a page or two back.

Hmmm...maybe this poll should be changed to "most popular director"?

It should because this poll definetly doesn't reflect any of my favorite directors.
