Which is the least worst Final Fantasy game?

  • Final Fantasy IV - I failed basic arithmetic, but I know which game this is.

Final Fantasy 1 thank you very much. I don't understand how so many of you fools can think otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, it was a close second. But dear god, I tried replaying it, and realized I have NOWHERE near the patience for the game as I did when I was 10 :(

FFVII. End of.

I had so much emmersion with that game, and loved every minute of it.

Also FF10 was okay, had some memorable moments playing that game. Was addicted.

FFVII and FFX were both pretty awesome. This is probably biased because I haven't ever completed another Final Fantasy game. Almost finished X-2 but then realized I had like 54% game completion by the time I was on my way to the final boss. Which was a huge disappointment and I ended up quitting before I beat it.

X-2 was god awful, anyway.

VIII no doubt, going back through it recently some of the character dialogue is pretty laughable at times but its the only FF that can still draw me in. FFX sucked big time I hated not being able to just fly around and explore. It was way too linear for an rpg and the voice acting and that stupid ball game were...ugh..I could never get into XI either, I played for awhile but there is way way too much grinding going on. Which I guess is what makes RPGs so long eh?? I dont have the time for all that leveling. :x

You HAVE to play it twice through to get 100% completion. I've spent very little time with this game. I mean, I hated all the characters in the first place, but when you spend 45 minutes running around Besaid and are 'rewarded' with a in-engine video of a waterfall, you're inclined to take the game back instantly and demand a refund. Even if you just borrowed it from a school friend.

I try to like this game and return to it every few months to inch along to the next bit, but it's SO tedious and probably has the most paper thin narrative since the NES era. And don't get me started on those God-damned laws. How on earth do you mess up a successor to Final Fantasy Tactics? Where is the quasi Catholicism bashing and the piss-poor translation?

Defeat Dycedarg's Older Brother!

FFVII because it's the only FF I ever finished.

The best thing about Final Fantasy games is that many of them will sell for a reasonable price on ebay. I recently sold FF Anthology (IV and V) for ?24. I sold PC versions of VII and VIII for quite a bit back in the day too...

Reckon IX must be worth a bit too, as virtually no one seems to have played it. But considering the amount of moogles in it, it'd be like selling a part of myself.

FF7 goes on Amazon unopened for 3-400 these days.

FF7 is only winning by a measly 4 votes?

Well I tried to play VII and got bored out of my mind by disc 2 or 3, and my roommate bought me X when it came out, and I bought X-2 and storyline wise, realized that was a mistake.

So seeing as the only FF games I've finished are X and X-2, I'm gonna have to choose X.

My second favorite was Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy VI (I really prefer to call it FFIII though, as I remembered it more fondly when I still had a working SNES :p). Though a bit cliched by today's standards, no story is nowhere near as epic as this one as far as FF games go, and compared to the other FF villians, Kefka is the blackest hearted, most evil, vile, crazy, dastardly SOB ever conceived.

Probably even more so compared to other franchise villians too. Unlike the other FF villians, he had no specific agenda whatsoever other than enjoying the misery and suffering of others and the total annhialation of the world. For no f**ing reason! That's pretty evil.

All the other FF villians, (apart from Vayne from FFXII and Ultemecia from FFVIII), were all of bunch of emos compared to Kefka imo. The diet coke of evil if you will. :D

I usually gauge the quality of an RPG's story based on it's villian. If I don't like the villian, I don't like the story. :p

Even though the turn based battle system in older FFs is dated by today's standards, I still like playing through them every now and then just to experience it's worlds and the story/characters created around them.

Oh yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed the FF tactics series too. I'm not european however. :p

FFVIII I would have liked better if not for the stupid junction system. :p Otherwise, I liked the story, world, and main villian in that FF too.

From order from best to worst of the FFs I've played imo:

FFVI (Kefka. Nuff said)

FF Tactics series (The isometric battle system was a refreshing change with the first one on the PS and I liked the significantly more mature story. I enjoyed the GBA version as well)

FFXII (Currently playing this one and I love it)

FFVII (Liked it better back in the day when it wasn't as popular and Square_Enix didn't milk this title for everything it's worth)

FFVIII (I liked this FF's story and graphics, but due to non-renewable spell pools, the junction system sucked)

FFIX (Good story ruined by a pussy antagonist. Vivi was awesome though)

FFX (I never finished this one. I just didn't care for the world or it's characters. Plus, Wakka and Blitzball was gay as was Seymour butts)

FFI (Apathy. Too simplistic and cliched. Even for back then)

FFII (Ditto^)

FFX-2 (This one juggles cock day in and day out. It sucked and is not fit to carry the FF name. :p)

FFVI (Kefka. Nuff said)

Not only the best antagonist in FF, but the best cast of characters and most epic story. FF7 was good, but it introduced emo to the series - and it never left.

And as a normal person I find the whole emotional whiny main character side of things utterly ****ing hilarious. Otherwise yeah Kefka and his damn laugh, want to smack the bastard in the face every time I swear.

Freakin wapanese. *waits patiently for english release*

You can learn the language easily within a year or two.

Jesus christ that game is a ****ing abomination. Do yourself a favor and play the original FFT or even better, the updated re-release in FFT: War of the Lions and you'll realize how much shit FFT:A is.

I tried to like FFT:A, I really did. But everything about it was shit compared to the original and Kupo is right, I'm not sure how the hell they managed to **** up FFT.

Hooray! Now, all we need is an FFIV fan and we're set for a poll where no one option was a waste of time.

Odd actually, because when I used to be more into FF games, there was always a couple of people who bummed the game. Can't wait for the DS remake though. Shame it's taken this long to start remaking games, instead of porting them (poorly) to systems with four times the power. Go Darth Golbez!

I just defeated Ozma in my IX playthrough. Despite the lack of the lame cop-out 'omnislash' technique in the game, the battle is still not about actual skill. It's just the luck of the draw whether it uses Doomsday or not.

That's typical of many RPG game superbosses with 50 million HP or so, not just the FF series.

If it gets the opportunity to pull of it's ultimate attack, your entire party is f**cked. :p

Have any of you played the crystal chronicle installments? From reviews Ive heard they don't even feel like a real FF game aside from chocoboos or whatever. I guess thats what happens when the lead designer leaves SE, although maybe it was for the best cause looking at his xbox games we would probably still have random battles in our FFs forever. And ever.

Ozma is weird in that it actually has a puny 50,000 or so HP (dead in 5-6 hits) and its 'ultimate attack' (the one that does the most damage in numbers) actually becomes a big hooray moment when you equip your party properly (it's an element you can absorb). The hard bit is recovering from its status-attacks (which gimp the entire party) and putting up with the fact that unless it is currently casting something, it's gets an attack just before the one you're about to make. Cheater!

I've crawled back to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. This game is ludicrous: I've completed 175 missions of 300 and I've been playing for Sixty Hours (since I got the game in European release week anyhow). Battles in this game can be a real war of attrition when key abilities are outlawed. I really hope A2 is going to address the problems in this game... I'm just thankful the two games don't follow on from each other, I'm never going to complete this.

I remember the plot of the first one sounding like something from Square's Mana series. I've recently heard it said that Final Fantasy XII is really Vagrant Story II in disguise (though that's a good thing in many ways). It's hard to be indignant about all of this though: Final Fantasy games have always been very loosely connected, since they occur on different worlds and the shared story elements of the earlier ones (Elemental Crystals... and shit) have all but vanished. In that way, I suppose 'Crystal Chronicles' is more Final Fantasy than most modern Final Fantasy. So long as the games are good... except they often aren't. Oh well.

Actually, I've finished every single mission in FF Tactics Advance and even finished all the Judge Cid missions. %100 completion wasn't so hard in that game tbh and wasn't no 60 hour marathon either. :)

Strange though that the world of Ivalice in FF XII is very loosely based on the Ivalice in FF Tactics Advance.

Also, Star Ocean:Till the End Of Time is the only RPG I've played where the HP cap for the characters wasn't 9,999, but 99,999 instead. Also, the level cap is 255 for some strange reason and not 99 like in practically all FF games. What's with the 9,999HP/999MP/lv.99 thing anyways? It would be much cooler if these games would let the player's HP and MP limit cap over 999/9,999 and there was no level cap.

Perhaps I'm over-leveling or something. People tend to just stick with a few characters and get the most of them, I level evenly, which is a bit daft when you have 24 character slots.
