At least as far as space paintings are concerned.

No external content was added, only used basic photoshop filters. Yeah its not scientifically accurate but who cares, its art. :)

asteriodcluster.jpg

Yup. From zero to kick ass in just a few months.

Holeeeee...

Nope. Words fail me.

Now there's a pic with atmosphere.

That'd look good on anything...

awsome ..now all it needs are some crazy spaceships.

and if thats a populated planted then a spacestation or 3 and lights on the darkside of the planet would be cool.

edit: yeah a higher rez shot would be cool.

Looks really good!
I have a few nitpickings though :)

the light...it looks like a plate or something....give it a more smooth edge.
and the planet on the right...maybe make it completely in darkness or something, of make it have a light behind it like the other one....i dunno, theres just something that bother me about it.... anyways!

Looks damn smashing! :)

oh and I'm an AntLion Guard....how many posts is that!?!? :)

Very nice. I like it a lot. My only crit is the light rays coming off the asteroids. It looks really funny to me and just seems to detract from the realism. To have that effect you'd have to have an extremely heavy concentration of dust particle in space around them. But other than great job.

OMFG! wow man! damn that looks absolutely awsome! could you please uppload a 1280x960 version of it so we can get a wallpaper? pretty please? if you add your tag?

Wouldn't that planet right in front of the light be completely black? If the light is in front of it the backside would be all dark. Unless there is another light coming from somewhere.

None the less it's beautiful.

Thank you for all the kind words.

Some replies:

The planet on the right isnt as close as it appears.

Yes I wanted to give the impression that the asteriods were in the green cloud, hence the streaming shadows and the more greenish tint for the ones further back.

This is as large as the picture is, if you want it resized just do so yourself in photoshop. It would only take a minute.

I thought the planet right infront of the light was completly black? (except for the shine that curves around the edges but that was done for effect)

Thanks again for the kind words.

If you want to see more of my work there is another thread around this one that has other work, none of it though matches this I admit (close second to that Pornography for the Soul one. I just love the beauty of that form)

i was bored.....i cleaned up the edges on the planets(they are a little rough)

..and added light to the planet.......im a photoshop newb...so dont hurt meh...

Why aren't the planets circular no more?

Thats pretty cool :)

But I think there isn't a smooth enough transition from lights to no-lights.

roger that..... im about to go to bed right now....mabey when i get up ill atcaully put a little effort into it. :p

Not that I am all that pissed off but since when did I say you could alter my artwork? If I wanted that planet to have a modern civilization I would have put one on it.

Sigh. Whatever its not that big of a deal. It just erks me that you didnt ask, you just did.

I'm with Pendragon and Insid on this, crabcakes I don't want to see you edit or take credit for someone elses work from this or another site or forum without permission again. Is that clear?

Or at least just ask first. That was my trip.

I do not know about legal part of this stuff, but your should honor someone's work by not touching it, the person did it his way and ment it to be a finished product and he did not give permission to modify it, he has the rights to his work by the copyright laws (well that's something about the legal part).
Yes you do sound like a dick, but so do I now. :p

Using someone's idea to non-profit is acceptable in my opinion, such as making a mod about some movies or something like that.

But modifying someone's picture is quite big moral question, depends on the case though.

Posting the result out is not really private use anymore, is it?

But anyways, I think this is more about moral and honor amongst the artists.

I just have one lonely point...

If it's so immoral, so is our entire photoshop competition which essentially concentrates on editing OTHER peoples work.

Like I said I was only upset because you didn't ask permission. You are upsetting me again now because you are being an asshat about the issue instead of just saying sorry and getting this over with. Its not any issue with you claiming credit, no one accused you of that and if you read the mods post again you would understand that. It is just seriously uncool to change another persons artwork.

Look, you made a unauthorized version of my "heart and soul". Because technically that is what my art is, if you were an artist you would understand this. I spend months working on that and reworking it. I poured into it everything I had, and I didn't do it so you could make your own version of it because you think it would look cooler the way you envision it. Like I said its not a huge deal, but since you had to pop the 'tude about it I want to make this clear to you how personal someones art can be to them. Changing another persons artwork is like touching your best friend's daughter between her legs. Its a violation of the connection I have with what I made. Perhaps if you had asked me to take my daughter out then I might have been ok with it all (odds are I would have said yes) but instead you played with her as you saw fit. Then you bitched when we called you on it.

Yeah so good for you, you can abuse the fact that there is no real legal recourse for what you have done. It doesnt stop you from being a jerk that people dont like though.

Participants in such competitions are by definition saying its ok to alter their artwork. Crab didn't bother asking me and that is where the problem came from.

At no point did you say it wasn't yours and give credit to the original author, thats just the same thing

i wasnt stealling anyones work.........

Legally, you were

him posting it here gives me the right to do whatever i want with it.....without permission.

You couldn't be more wrong, if Insid wished he could make a very big deal out of this and cause a lot of trouble for you with the law, and I don't ever want to catch you doing something like this with any of my work.

Don't think for a second this isn't serious because it is. To you all you think you did was edit someone elses work, in the eyes of the law it is very different. This type of thing is taken very seriously in the art world and just because Insid might not be a pro doesn't make it any less serious, it was his work the moment he created it and he is well within his rights to take this futher if he chooses to and he would have the backing of every professional artist out there, we watch each others back and it doesn't matter if we're newb, semi pro, pro or master, we're all artists and any one of us can be conned next.

Please also do not assume that your protected by law if your underage, it simply because an issue for your parents then and somehow I don't think they would be happy having this turn up during the festive season.

1. im not trying to claim it as my own. i just added something i thought would look cool.

And had you got permission from the author first then it wouldn't have been a problem. As he said himself, Insid would have likely been ok about it, most artists are if someone asks permission first. We get real annoyed if someone doesn't though.

2. im making no money with it.....so i can edit as i see fit.....

Another myth and entirely false

i can take a coke logo and edit that.......

Erm, sorry but no you can't, thats a trademark of the Coke Cola company, even using it without permission for whatever reason is an infringement on that.

it would be pretty ovbious i didnt make it.
...and its pretty ovbious i didnt make this.......

That may be obvious to you, but someone else might not know this, a jury who were shown both images only, would not know if it was originally yours or his and as Insid can no doubt prove its his with original files of it then you would be seen as claiming it to be yours from lack of proving otherwise.

i dont need your permission to do anything, and i dont apoligise.

Yes you do, on both counts

i can do whatever the hell i want with it(private use)

Actually technically you still can't do anything you want for private use, its simply ignored by courts and companies for the most part because there's little others can do to prove you did anything.. Unfortunately for you the moment you made that image publicly available for anyone to see it ceased to be for private use and became public. So you wont be covered by the its for private use get out clause.

Someone mentioned the legalities of the Art forum's competition, well technically that too is breaking a number of copyright and trademark laws, its upto the owners of those images in question to take action, they will first request the offending images are removed, often a simple ceased and desist with directions to the offending image or images in question, if no action is taken with said images or the owner of this site and/or homelan or the hosting service at the time contests the order, the other party may take legal action against the user and this website, which would no doubt involve homelan for continuing to host the images.

Insid too can do the same, he can request the image you uploaded be removed, failure to do so and he can turn on this site just as easily as he can you. Also your refusal to apologies is just making you look more and more guilty with each post

Don't take this personally though :) these same laws that can ruin your life are there to protect you also, imagine how you would feel if someone used your artwork and claimed it to be their own, only to get a great job you've always wanted. You'd be pretty upset if you didn't have a leg to stand on and couldn't prove it was your work, you'd be laughed at for making up stories while someone else is having the time of their life thanks to you.

In retrospect you didn't know until now how serious it actually is, thats understandable your only young and not everyone is expected to know certain laws, and most believe everyone should get atleast one chance. So you know now, I don't want to see you doing it again. Insid has been very mature and patient about this, and you owe him an apology. It's then upto him what he does next, personally I think he may let it drop this time, and I would consider yourself very lucky if he does as many of us aren't so forgiving and enjoy taking someone for everything they have for things like this, especially at christmas time when we know it'll hurt the most. It serves as a warning to others who think they can get away with it.

Now, with that said, merry christmas crabcakes and everyone else! :cheese: lol
