We are all proud of our musical back ground and I’m sure most people have views on the best and influencing groups/people in music.

As a Brit I feel over the years we have produced the greatest musical bands ever.

The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones,
The Sex Pistols
U2.
T Rex
Deep Purple.
Pink Floyd
Dire striates,
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath.
The Who.
The Jam
The Kinks

And singers

David Bowie
Elton John.
Rod Stewart.
Sting.

Feel free to add to this list ,or, to our American friends put forward you’re our list. Please don’t flame. I just like music.

Pfff, we had Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors, I think we gave you a tri-fecta of greatness

Don't forget Elvis.
And you may be pushing it with U2. :D
But yeah, I can't argue that an incredible amount of good music has come out of the UK.

Well, U2 are Irish.

How about The Animals and Cream?

but more importantly you also can't forget The Yardbirds which have indirectly been one of the most influential hard rock bands ever who among others produced Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

Who the heck makes a Best Of British list without Louise, you all have no taste in music.

Since people might oversee Direwolf's post:

Don't forget Elvis, (you Americans out there!)

(sorry for hijacking^^)

You also have the greatest rock band of all time, Queen.

LOl u guys forgot a amazing band.. THE DARKNESS! YEAH BABY! lol

PEACE

Mike

David Bowie!!!!!!!!!!!! w00t!!!!!!

I dunno why but i find david bowie fascinating, i like his songs and films he has played in.
The labrynth is a classic.

Oh and he has different coloured eyes like me!

Yes you little ***** you forgot QUEEN!!! And the greatest rock n roll singer freddie mercury!! God i should kill you!!

Jimi Hendrix didnt get popular till he headed to england - ignorant americans...

David Bowie and Queen deserve kudos. Unfortunately, though, I'm into extreme metal and this country hasn't produced a single thing on that front worth a damn.

Everyone has awful taste here and we're the only country stupid enough for Garage to be able to exist as a genre. Fellow brits - observe how the Americans wont know what I'm talking about. See how lucky they are?

Radiohead should probably be on that list somewhere :p

Yeah, we made good rock music, 20+ years ago. That's the problem, we have nothing worth a damn nowadays.

It's the media and record companie's fault.

Erm, I think that's a problem every where you go, not just in the U.K..

Frank Sinatra
Dean Martin
Sammy Davis Jr

What about?

Simon and Garfunkel
Hall and Oates

Did you not give us Mowtown?

Diana Ross
Marvin Gaye
The Jackson’s

Europe.

I really can’t think of one band or singer from here, yes I can “the Cheeky Girls” well done Europe.

Well, I think Bob Dylan makes up for all those bands, most of the bands on the UK side didn't start to experiment with music until they met/heard Dylan, on another note, Bob Dylan grew up 3 hours from my house! woot!

Don't forget clapton for the UK.

UK does have an enormous collection of super bands and artists for a relatively small country. weird that, but makes you proud :D

Europe has a lot of good Power Metal bands if your in to that type of music. Germany in particular. Sweden and Finland too.

We can thank the states for Lou Reed. The dude is a diva :) (my fave artist - both with the Velvet Underground and on his own) oh - REM are great too.

While not quite as well renowned as the other bands mentioned so far, i'd like to mention The Clash, The Specials, Rancid, The Cure and Madness - in their own special way i've loved them all :)
