Is the citadel a fortress?

How tall is the citadel?

What is the citadel exactly for?

The Citadel is a fortress of sorts, I guess.

Nobody really knows how high the Citadel is, I'm assuming it's a mile or so.

The Citadel is where the UUC administrate everything, and create Synths.

WOW, well I would believe it. I herd in the news about some mistrial or metal (it is a nano mistrial) that a scientist made and it is 100 times stronger then steel. It is so light that we can make a very, very thick rod that can go to space and have a space elevator!!
Although the space elevator will not replace a ship but it can send regular people to go in to space and see the stars. I wonder if the Citadel is made of such mistrial or metal?
If so the Citadel can with stand vertically any attack ( yes even a plane or missals) and this could be why is so tall.

Seeing as your a n00b well let you off, but yea, like Boogymanx said, Big huge fortress that stands, more then a mile I'd say 1.5 Miles maybe that pumps out synths and soldiers :)

Your talking about nanotubes? That isn't metal, its graphite in a circular shape. Pretty much a tube of carbons. They can cunduct electricity too, and since they are made of carbon its really easy to add things to them, so you will probobly see a bunch of new medical and industrial uses for them soon. And yes, they are as strong as steel. Stronger even.

A "citadel" is the same as a "fortress", just with a fancier, scarier name.
Would be weird if we had Team Citadel Classic (TCC) instead of TFC.

A citadel basically is a rediciusly high, gloomy-looking skyscraper. While a fortress looks like a castle.

The Citadel is at once a fortress, a command centre and a synth factory. It houses a massive reactor and teleporter to bring supplies through from the Combine homeworld when needed. So it's basically a fortress with infinite resupply capability.

The Citadel is my Holiday Beachhouse, leave it alone !

The citadels appeared in the middle of majors cities and synths poured out and owned mankind.

According to Raising the Bar, Cremators also poured out.

Yeah. I like to turn my gaze from details from RtB that contradict my theorys. :p
Maybe Vavle have changed their stance of where cremators come from. They did say they decided against human-sized alien troops.

so the cremators are really in the storyline?

This should help give reference to the height of the Citadel:

Shit.... thats got to be at least 2.5 miles. And didn't it say somwhere in the game somthing about being 3 miles up in the citidel? Didn't Alyx say that?

Thats about right - except that one is pretty clunky, and larger in width.

They certainly are, which is why you find the head of one in a jar of formaldehyde.

Valve wanted to avoid going OTT with the alien troops that the Combine controlled, because they felt that it ruined the effect of the Combine using us against ourselves.

Doesn't mean that their human-sized aliens don't exist.

Horrible, emaciated things that wear robe-type things and shoot plasma at you, igniting everything nearby.

Hmmm, think i will have to google it for a decent image.

Ah i see, for a minute i thought Cremators were some sort of creature in reality ..... ** breaths a sigh of relief **

heh.
Citadels are most probably more than 2.5 miles in total - We dont actaully know how deep they go underground.

Is it just me or is it digging itself deeper and building itself higher the whole time?

If those thumpers aren't digging for resources then they could be digging down, but theres really no solid evidence for that.

If they are, that's a really crappy way to dig... I mean, "Argh! Give up earth! Give me your resources! I'm stomping you! Give up! STOMP STOMP!" doesn''t get you very far...

I really hope Cremators turn up in Aftermath - they looked really cool. Something almost Tim Burton-esque about them :)

I always figured the Citadel was digging to build a foundation. The base is continually spreading and at the same time it's building deeper roots to make it that much more integrated into the city it dominates.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That pic is so cool BetaMaster... Were is that type of Citadel when you need one?

"Shit.... thats got to be at least 2.5 miles. And didn't it say somwhere in the game somthing about being 3 miles up in the citidel? Didn't Alyx say that?"

Dang!!!!!!! Did she?

Cremator?

I think they are digging for resources, personally.

My first thought was 'wow, so this is the thumper big enough to keep all the antlions out of City-17'...that would make sense as we know that with the Citadel going down in Aftermath the antlions are getting in. But it seems also likely that they're bringing up resources from down there...

I thought I saw a Cremator in the Aftermath trailer, but I'm not sure. It flashed by so quick.

Edit: Never mind about the Cremator thing. I watched it again and they were Stalkers.

15 points to you for editing your post and not double posting.

Well there is a Cremator's head in a jar of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a preserving agent, so maybe that's Valve's hint that the concept of the Cremators is being kept for future development.

I've just recently subscribed to Game Developer Mag and there was lots of interesting information on Valve's development process in an article of the first issue. One of the principles they work by is:
Make rough, but global decisions early (weapons, story, basic monster behaviours). With investment comes constraints: minimize investment until you hit critical mass of quality, then iterate until good becomes great
We've all heard about Valve having to cut several elements from Half-Life for gameplay purposes. From what I read it seems they went through prototype tests for each monster before making the maps and before making a final decision on whether to include them in the game. I doubt Cremator's head was simply modelled as a desktop trophy for Alyx. I'd guess it was one of the cuts, made perhaps because of a design that didn't quite work well enough with the game environment. It may well have been put on hold until the prototype gets more stress-testing or a stoyline section is written that will allow a Cremator-friendly episode to fit in nicely.

The citidel is that tall huge thing in the city. I wonder if they ever put a bathroom in there. I mean its so big it should have at least 189 bathrooms in it but what if they were too far away. The Combine soldiers would be trying to hold it in for 45 weeks straight before they run a mile to the bathroom. If this doesn't make sense then i must be crazy.

The G-Man appears in the citidel i think i just can't put my mind on it. Does he appear at the end or something. Anyway I'm asking because of this video. Click below.

You don't know until you've built a 3-mile high fortress with impossible metals, housing dropships, synths, striders and soldiers, with human slaves for... uh... slaves, and massive ground pounding thingies.

How come no-one's mentioned the Dark Fusion Reactor yet?

One thing that has always confused me about the Citadel is that whenever you look at it from the outside, it's top always disappears into a mass of dark clouds that seem permanently positioned above it's location. But at the end of HL2, when you finally reach the top, you can clearly see the Earth's surface, with nothing in the way.
