I think it's a good idea to let everyone complain in this thread, without any other people flaming, just to get it out of our system.

I think everybody loved this game, but I doubt there is anyone who has nothing to complain about. I myself loved this game too, and I have some things to complain about as well:

I've played the leak/alpha/beta/whatever. So sue me. The thing is, that leak represented a much more fun game. You could actually hurt npcs, it had a LOT more weapons, the commander system worked way better, there were bullsquids, itchyausaurs, there was a hydra, there were lots of partial levels that looked great fun but never made it into the game.. do I need to go on? I'm sure it was wrong for me to expect things from a leak that was never supposed to be played outside of valve, but come on.

The ending was rather lame. I saw there was a chapter 15 so I was really excited to see what would come next... credits. WTF. Why put a questionmark if it's something as lame as the credits. The final battle was ridiculously lame. Maybe I should see the part before you enter the citadel as the final battle, but there is too much stuff after that. I think that if the ending was better I'd forgive them for the lack of cool stuff that we saw a glimpse of in the leak, but unfortunately, it was rather lame.

Now don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but this is the complain thread, we're here to discuss the negative side of the game.

Please remember people, no flaming.

Well if you hadn't played the leak, you wouldn't know, and therefore not have that complaint...

My only real complaint is that the rebels seem scripted to annoy the crap out of you. Always blocking your path, hogging weapons in front of you, not listening to your commands and draw enemy gunfire your way...

On the last level with all the striders (right before barney comes along with DOG) they kept running out with me (considering that I told them to stay back), drawing the attention of a strider and getting me hurt...

HL2 far exceeded my expectations. However, I am a bit unhappy with some of the weapons. There is very very very little magnum ammo in the game, and you can only carry 12 extra bullets. They should have made it more like hl1's magnum (ie. less powerful), but with much more plentiful ammo. The combine rifle is also a little boring. Why did they scrap the irifle?:(

They have a lot more weapons in the game, because you can spawn them with cheats. Only half made the cut though.

what are they? :) I want some.

I think I've already made it clear what sucks in HL2. The story.

However, talking about HL2's shortcomings on this forum is not advisable. You'll have an army of drooling, screaming and foaming fanboys in here soon.

Please, don't you try to urge a flamewar here. :hmph:

Anyway, I'd say the most dissapointing aspect of HL2 would be the A.I., for me. It was good, but not mindblowing or unbelieavble as they said.

I'd have liked more intelligent alien enemies. The Striders and Gunships were good, but I mean ordinary enemies similar to the alien grunts, vortigons and alien controllers from Half-Life.

Also a bit more unscripted interaction with the characters, if only for them to tell you to go away, or they'd buy you Dr. Breen's Private Reserve later. The characters were excellent, but interaction seemed a little forced.

man it was short. no mini bosses, and nothing was explained about the story.

and the ending was freakin easy..

disapointing striders
average AI
disapointing story
too short
loading times
a few minor engine glitches

thats about all i can complain about, apart from that hl2 owns :D

I think the pacing is a little off at moments, for instance I found the coastline sections to drag on a bit but other places like Ravenholm, that I enjoyed a lot I didn't feel played enough of an important role, it would have been nice to learn more about Ravenholm off of Gregorie or someone.

Another thing was the overall length of the game, I actually think it was shorter than Half-Life 1 which was a bit dissapointing, the chapters weren't as long as Half-Life 1's that's for sure.

One more things that bugged me a little was the lack of purpose at times, you never really felt like you had this great purpose or you were trying to save the world, but beyond that it was a great game.

The A.I. didn't really bug me, I thought some of the A.I. was good, for instance I saw combine ducking for cover etc.

I also found it quite amusing that not one of the characters in HL2 asked Gordon where he'd been the past 15 years or whatever it was, if they had it might have generated the oppurtunity for a little back story, i.e. how/when/where the Combine invaded, and other little tid bits that were left over from Half-Life 1.

Overall I just think VALVe needed to fill out the game more, make it more story driven instead of almost mission based gameplay, and bring the places that you visit to life.

The buggy driving model was a bit disapointing. Also I thought there would be more enemies and more different guns. No alien guns in this one, except ant lion feromones. Also no energy guns. Except the one mounted on the buggy.

Still a great game ofcource!
