I'm sorry, I just noticed it, forgot there was a flashlight in cs lol. But WOW. Not only does the flashlight look better than doom 3 in first person view, but when you see other players use it, if your in the dusty tunnel, u see dust particles floating through the beam of light. and the light itself just looks stunning. It's the best ive seen in any game so far. Your thoughts?

I'll have to check it out. I accidentally turned the flashlight on in CS last night but turned it right back off (in the middle of battle).

Doom 3's flashlight is great, but mainly because of the shadows which CS:S doesn't do so I am under the assumption CS:S flashlight couldn't be better but I will definatly try it out and see.

The flashlight in CS:S is nice yes, but better than doom3...? Don't know.. there are some graphical bugs in it too..

I like it, looks very good but since it's CS it doesn't serve much purpose. Which reminds me, I haven't tried the NV goggles.

NV isn't anything special, don't think it's any different from 1.6

The flashlight is sweet, looks nice on the test hardware map, and the effect when you see another player with it on is ace!

The NV is alot cleaner than 1.6, its a post render effect rather than a wierd overbrighted green overlay, and it does look nice when u look at the halos in the dome room, i havnt seen any graphical bugs in the flashlight, well accept the player models arent effected yet which could be a performance issue, there was some texture tearing originaly but it appears to be fixed in one of the patches.

The CS:S flashlight is great, though not at all useful in Dust. I think they'll have some really cool uses for it in HL2.

The D3 flashlight is much more useful, and is nice for really making those bumpmapped textures pop out.

As for the best flashlight ever, though, I'd have to vote on the one from Splinter Cell: PT. It looks incredible when you're playing online and an enemy is searching for you in the dark, waving the beam back and forth. It easily beats out D3 (yes it's got nifty dynamic shadows too) and CS:S, so we'll have to see if HL2 can match it.

Graphical errors = in the darkest area of the underpass, there are papers lying around, when you turn on the flashlight, the papers dissapear. I think this is the case with sprays, etc... (anything that's not wall/object texture)

I love how the CSS flashlight wraps around corners and objects realistically, and grows/ shrinks when your a certain distance away from walls and objects, unlike D3's which had a static size.

can someone post a pic of a nother person useing a flashlight

My only real beef with the CS:S flashlight is that the beam itself (when coming from another player) isn't real noticeable. It's much easier to see when in motion, but here are a few screens on the beam and light hitting varying surfaces. Perhaps in HL2 the beam will be bolder or it will show better in poorly-lit areas.

I love it:)
Doesn't really have any use in any CS map I can think of( besides the Militia tunnels). I like how you can at least see the bumpmapping shawdows in the underpass on de_dust. I like how I stretches on the wall if your close enough to it( kinda makes sense).

cs_militia, in the tunnel, with 3-4 ct's using their flashlight, in source.

/ejaculates.

cs:source looks amazing to bad i wont be able to play hl or cs:source until the end of december when i get my new comp:(

the CSS flashlight takes my fps down by 10-15fps.

I don't recall that happeneing to me :|.

Like previous people have said, yes it looks very smooth :). Player models arn't effected by it though - it's a little weird when you look at someone with it on, and the lighting on the weapon they're carrying changes but they don't :|.

I can't wait for some HL2/CS:S custom maps, or even HL2 mods that really make use of it (enviroments where it's so dark you have to use it).

My only problem is that when you look directly into the light source from a torch user, it doesn't blind you at all. I thought it would be cool if, when you looked directly into the torch you were slightly blinded.

it would be cool but also annoying because then just everybody would turn on their flashlight when shooting at u, would get pretty annoying
